today is actually pretty amazing for what it is: ongoing QE appears to be dollar bullish! at least at the moment, that is how it appears. USDX rebounds, equities go negative, gold is giving it all back and other risk assets are fading. the remainder of the week will tell the tale.

i have an ongoing suspicion that QE, at this point, is entirely about rolling the astronomically sized US debt levels into the 30yrs to prevent governmental collapse. employment, inflation, mortgage rates... all smoke and mirrors in favor of a shell game for controlling debt sustainability. we, americans, are in far deeper shit than it appears. thats my personal ZH conspiracy theory

That won't be good having a chairman with Parkinson. I think he is lying. I just don't get it how they will come to an agreement re FC and the debt ceiling.

EUR/USD feels bid but stepping back it's not as firm as it feels. Last week we hit 1.3127 highs and today the Fed committed to keep ultra-low rates for another two years (at least) in such an environment you'd expect a little more of a pop. What seems to be holding the currency back harks back to what we discussed in this column yesterday - the technicals just won't allow it. We've freshened up the spread sheet with today's data and we find that only the short end has shifted materially (as to be expected) but even then not as much as you get the impression it should have.
Very short term models (24-120 hrs) average overbought levels 1.3080/1.3120 vs 1.3045/90 yesterday. Short term models (200-hrs to 13-days) 1.3125/85, just 10 pips higher than yesterday; Intermediate models (21-55 days) 1.3130/1.3240 (+10 to 15 pips) and only minor variations (as to be expected) in the longer term models. So what we said yesterday still stands, EUR/USD will struggle to get above 1.3150 (once you get past the extreme short end, +3.0 Bollinger readings are extremely rare - the numbers quoted here are all +2.0/+3.0)
EUR/USD strategically is a sell on rallies for long gterm hedgers and / or investors; in the near term however it remains bid and whilst equity marts continue to rally on QE Kool-Aid it's the way of it - however our markets are up, just +0.04/0.29% post FOMC - a sure sign that the law of diminishing returns is exacting its revenge on the Fed. Fiscal cliff worries are obviously part of that, Boehner noted today that there are "serious" distances between the Administration's proposals and what the Republicans proffer. That's one more little potential boost left for the single currency but after that - it looks like a fade, after all, the ECB are talking rate cuts. [email protected]

I try to not let a columnist or analyst dictate my bias. I trade what I see. But if you had to gleam something from the article I would say it was USD bullish and EUR negative.
