plain old technical analysis?

Is anybody successfully trading the forex markets with just the plain old technical analysis? Just using trendline breakouts and such? or the 1 2 3 formations? Just wondering. Thanks.

I think I'm using the old methods of analysis, my system is based on trendlines, channels, MAs, breakouts and fibos, although I use indicators' signals as confirmations and I sometimes use trendlines of some indicators such as RSI... but it works...

I don't why I'm doing so, maybe I just love the classic stuff (I've just watched Casablanca for the fifth time in one week ), or maybe it's the visual approach away of the math stuff...

And whyh do people trust indicators that much, knowing that they already laggards, (A week ago, I thought that RSI is not a laggard, but narafa convinced me it isn't)...

there must be someone who managed to use the old way. but some failed.

no one in the history of trading has made a consistent career out of trendline breakouts or rsi or moving averages or fibs yet people still come into forex year after year believing in them. banks laughing all the way to the ... yep you guessed their bank. trandlines are a pissa. breakouts are even funnier. buying top edge and selling bottom edge. that sounds smart! lol

I am sure that there are still people who use only classic strategies and approaches for trading. And there is a certain truth in this, because if you look closely at modern strategies, they are in one way or another also based on old market laws. I can't say that this format is suitable for everybody and of course you can't encourage everybody to use levels and not to stick to other formats anymore. I think that each of us understands that this is not enough. But if a person trades on long-term positions and not all the time, then it can be called a good option. Plus, many people start to study the market with this, because standard technical analysis can be called quite simple to process.

imo TA is only useful for entries. They do not guarantee direction of the market though, and for that you need to build a fundamental directional bias using data that you can find outside of your charts. The way I see it is, you first build a directional bias for a particular currency pair, and then look for technical entries.

Oh, well, just recently we were discussing with friends this topic about how indicators have changed in recent years and where it led. I can say that we have agreed that, on the one hand, the appearance of new indicators is absolutely normal practice, because the market is changing, new assets and relationships are appearing, and it is certainly inevitable. So everything is logical. On the other hand, it should be noted that modern developments have become too massive and not always their creators spend enough time and effort to adapt them for regular use and in the future they quickly lose their audience, because they give a huge number of false levels. And this cannot be considered a worthy and long-term solution. So everything is worth checking in practice and choosing exactly what suits you.

I do not see anything wrong with classical technical analysis. After all, those traders who started trading ten years ago, in principle, did not have the opportunity to use something else, and imagine - they were making good money. In addition, I can add that modern strategies may not always deserve attention because they look too dynamic and are not always applicable in real trading. Here I would focus more on personal preferences and experience, as well as personal characteristics, and in general, what difference does it make what we use, if it brings positive results. It seems to me that everyone here has the right to do exactly as he or she wants. There's nothing special about it, although you may disagree with me.

I can say that I have a lot of acquaintances who use ancient methods to analyze the market, and this does not bother them in any way, because for them it is a familiar and understandable format that allows them to stay in the market and comprehend new information. After all, almost all modern material is formed on old developments, because they are based on algorithms that calculate the market and analyze the current situation in comparison with previous ones. Although there are those who are constantly hunting for some extraordinary developments that allow looking at the market in a completely different way. And this is very interesting. I would say that one should remain neutral in this matter, I am not in favor of criticizing my colleagues, especially if they show positive results and respect the opinion of other traders.
