Election 2017: Exit poll predicts Tories to be largest party

The Tories will be the largest party but may not have a majority, according to the general election exit poll. The survey taken at polling stations across the UK suggests the Tories could get 314 MPs when all the results have been counted in Thursday's election. Labour would get 266, the Lib Dems 14, UKIP none and the SNP 34, the NOP/Ipsos MORI poll for BBC/ITV/Sky suggests. The first election results are due before midnight with the final result expected by Friday lunchtime. The exit poll suggests the Conservatives would be 12 short of an overall majority. You are right in that the election was called because of Brexit and had it been that alone the Conservatives would have won a resounding victory. It was only when they launched their disastrous manifesto and then completed a U-turn on their social care policy, together with Theresa May coming across as very robotic and not appearing in the TV leaders debate that their lead went from 20%+ to 2%. So it was not a vote against Brexit but a muddling leader and poor policies.

Well IMHO STABILITY is the most important thing now.
A power vacuum will serious damage UK.
IMHO what we are seeing is a potential vote of NO CONFIDENCE in May
and her unmandated UKIP hard Brexit agenda and obsession.

Yes, May did call a GE for a greater majority and yes it did backfire, but she also did it to silence the Scottish problem, which she has achieved. Do you understand that?

They already had a mandate for Brexit without this election. I agree with Jen that some of this was to silence the Scots and their threats of breaking away will be no more for awhile.

Sadly May is not much a conservative (we have many of the same type in the US) and her lame way to deal with things almost lost them their power.

However it did not and in a parliamentary system, as long as your party and/or your allies (DUP) hold the course, then you can push through whatever the hell you want and the minority can, for all intents and purposes, do nothing about it.
