Say as you like about May. but in the interests of Balance, Corbyn is trying to fend off security questions constantly not to mention contacts with Irish paramilitaries and at the same time conveniently forgetting that it was the Labour Party that took us into Middle east Wars and bankrupted the country, Farron and his team (led by Clegg) sold our young people/students down the river as soon as any hint of the illusion of power came their way and are conveniently forgetting that despite promises about tuition fees etc. they were quick to bargain them away in the hope of gaining electoral reform that would primarily benefit them!. Sturgeon's agenda has always been Scottish independence and anything that comes along is just another excuse to shout for a re-run Whilst always forgetting they don't seem to be quite so savvy when it comes to running the budget (or so I hear). All are doing anything they can to frustrate anything to do with our withdrawal from the EU, creating anything but a united front and giving the whip hand to the EU negotiators and some prepared to sell the family silver to ensure it doesn't happen at all. Most would rather shout about democracy but GIVE it away to become puppets of an un-elected foreign power. I've not doubt many are thinking about the cushy Brussels jobs they might not have available as their exit route from westminster.

The <CEO> went to Luxembourg I believe, and took all the head-office functions with him. So there went a bundle of accounting and administration jobs that used to be employing British workers.

Paul McCartney is a true patriot. The rest of the Beatles went abroad but he stayed (lived on the Isle of Skye perhaps) and paid his 80% tax, plus the extra 15% for un-earned income on royalties. Yes, that was 5p in the £ that he was allowed to keep. Incidentally that same 15% loading applied also to interest on deposits held in savings accounts, being un-earned income. Labour taxing the prudent again....

No sane person is going to risk all to establish a business, work 18 hour days and 7 days a week to get a business of the ground for £80K and 50% tax. That is not an incentive. Then when you add to the mix living wage/minimum wage that forces me to look at automation or offshoring because otherwise I would be uncompetitive. UK is a service based economy and that means those jobs cannot be outsourced to China. The jobs that could be outsourced are long gone. In fact thats the number one thing that companies look for when they set up shop. How can they cut cost and maximize profit. But certain jobs they just cant ship away.

I refer you to my previous statement as quoted by You!.
We are not talking outsourced (sad as that may be) we are talking completely gone! And international business does NOT have to operate from the base it started with. It can up sticks and move while retaining it's international customer base. Your argument of someone else filling up that gap does not hold water since there is no Gap in the market to fill because that company still operates in that space, but the jobs and the income and the taxes and the intangible benefits to society enhance some where else. It is by no means as simplistic as you would have us all believe.

There are huge discrepancies in term of margin between industries (and even between companies within the same industry).

Besides, it's the middle class and poor people that consume the most low value-added/low-margin products that would be harmed the most, since this policy is a direct incentive not to produce low-margin products.

20th June poll from Survation showed less than a 1% lead for remain, (inside margins of confidence)
and WARNED that undecideds were swinging towards leave.
In fact Wilfred Frost (CNBC) did a clip also carried by Bloomberg on 21st June
with banner "Survation poll shows Brexit leave momentum"
I wasnt aware this research house had polled US elections.

Wealth is created WITHIN society.
The deal is.. Society provides the laws and stable commercial environment..
that allows wealth creators ( and Traders are NOT wealth creators) to take risks, create wealth and make bucks.
For winners ? those bucks are taxed. .. for losers, society provides protection with insolvency/administration law?
The Left/Right argument is about what societies share of the bucks made should be... and more fundementally what Society is, and what its responsibilities to its members are.

Right says .. hey I DID IT. I made the bucks with my genius.. so butt out society... you are oppressing me.??
Left says.. hey.. its Society's laws, that created the environment that allowed you to make those bucks.
. so you need to share those bucks to keep that show going?

So the argument is always the extent of societies responsibility to its members.
Right want it minimal.. (costs less we get to keep more bucks))
and the Left wants it inclusive? (all a family and we must look after the weakest fk the expense)

Where you stand ? Just depends on your moral compass I suppose?

No, I provide services globally and can do it from anywhere in the World, I am a business man and not in Social Care. I choose to live, work and pay my taxes here. In the real World, businesses leave a region because it unprofitable or uncompetitive to remain, and under Corbyn the UK will become both. Real businesses will not come in to fill that space because of the reasons for leaving in the first place. Some business will be moped up by existing providers but they will have to service that base with existing employees, just to make the numbers stack up. The long and short of it will be job losses. The thing about job losses is that they lead to further job losses in other sectors, because the consumer base is reducing due to the first job losses. I could go on, but the upshot is that you are quickly in the Socialist economic death spiral. Why should I be patriotic when the Socialist Government is trying to bleed me dry and removing all incentives to work my gut out? Equal opportunity is fine but equal outcome/entitlement is a disaster for everyone.

Check out the Labour Government in the early 1970's is you want a view to the future under Corbyn

I dont recall offering any definition of wealth creation.
My suggestion is that all transactions are subject to the laws of a particular society (ie read-country)?
And that should in an ideal world be the same society in which the wealth has been created.
Which in itself raises another bunch of problems and loopholes.. (vis transfer pricing)
Your desert island economics analogy doesnt scale to that concept of applicable law.

I think whats missing here is an understanding that the world is about Society.
Enterprise is a inherent social activity. And its wealth creation pays for Society.
I think we get confused when we start to believe that the needs of Society should be subject to
the exclusive interests of those who provide that Enterprise however essential it is to Society.
IMHO.. danger of tail wagging the dog.

IMHO the question is .. within a democratic framework, do we aspire to a Nordic Model of social democracy .. or a Right/Conservative model of reduced mutual responsibility? All evidence I see, suggests the former yield a safer, least divisive and most inclusive society. Despite popular myths, there is very little connection between economic performance and welfare expenditure. And such societies rate top of the "Happiness" charts. Whatever TF they are..Lol

All that said.. anyone got ideas to share about dealing with market volatility in next 48 hours?

Only one of the five Nordic countries, Sweden, currently has a government headed by social democrats. The other four countries have center-right governments. Moreover, the Swedish Social Democrats enjoy weaker popular support today than at any point in modern times. They lead a minority government, as the majority of Swedes either support one of the center-right parties or the anti-immigration party.

Nordic countries have gradually been reforming their social systems. Taxes have been cut to stimulate work, public benefits have been limited in order to reduce welfare dependency, pension savings have been partially privatized, for-profit forces have been allowed in the welfare sector, and state monopolies have been opened up to the market. In short, the universal-welfare-state model is being liberalized. Even the social-democratic parties themselves realize the need for change.
