    Alphabet Inc. can’t seem to stop heaping massive pay packages on Google’s Sundar Pichai. The chief executive officer of the search-engine unit received $199.7 million in compensation for 2016, according to a regulatory filing Friday. That marks his third straight year getting nine-figure pay -- a rare accomplishment even at well-paying technology companies and virtually unheard of in other industries. Since he became CEO in 2015, Pichai has moved to give Google more control over two critical fields: artificial intelligence and cloud. Because they aren't useless to the company. Running a company, especially a big one, isn't one of the easy tasks you can choose to do in your life.

It's highly unlikely that they get payed just for showing up - Google/Alphabet Inc isn't the state nor is it funded by tax payers money

BTW: people who are good with technology and are CEO- or just leadership-material at the same time are rare. I'm speaking a bit of experience here. Many tech people sadly are a bit of a cliché, you better hide them in the cellar when there're classic business people around.

If that man is not doing well for Google, please do you think he will be given that kind of pay check in shares (even if he is to get it in the next 10 years)

May be he is worth it or may be not.

Yeah real useless, just delivered no financial gain to Google what so ever (sarc).

I mean, with his compensation consisting mainly of shares that can't be realised for 3 years, why SHOULD Puchai be motivated to continue doing such a "useless" job lol...

Such a stupid compensation strategy eh...

Well I agree with you.
THEY ARE VERY USEFUL TO THE COMPANY get that kind of pay check.
