hanover, appreciate your comments, I think there is a very fair point in what you are saying. As I mentioned in my above posts, I am just trying it out here and I am not forcing anyone. But, maybe someone who is a good coder, but (maybe) a less of a good trader finds this as an interesting opportunity to work with someone with real industry experience and a very deep market knowledge. Which combined might produce something interesting. I believe (and it's my experience from real life, and real people i've known in the market) that it is almost necessary to be a good discretionary risk taker / trader before becoming an algo / quant trader. Because in that way you are much more likely to find things which have an edge and which can be automatized. Like that you have a goal / end target / idea based on past experience trading and you just implement it into a code and test it out (if possible, i.e. not too discretionary). Because if someone is just a coder, at first it is kind of as shooting with blind bullets because the one doesn't know where to aim That's my opinion, but would surely like to hear back from someone like you who started in software development and moved into trading.

I've seen enough instit. bloomberg terminal suckers and wannabes who thought they knew everything about the market but couldn't make a dime with trading.
Every good hedge fund and trading firm has its own or licenced software.
They have immediate contact to programmers and coders who were paid to get the job done.

But whatever, noob.

Trading has only ever been a hobby for me; I've wanted to take it further but I've found that my personality is ill-suited for the stress involved in trading larger position sizes, even more so due to ill-health and other recent distractions. In the 10 years I've been with forex, I've slowly gravitated more toward a more discretionary approach, which is not possible to automate fully. My experience has been this: the more discretionary the approach, the less worthwhile it is trying to code it. Too much of the nuanced intelligence gets lost in attempting to reduce it to a mathematically codeable form. I know that's a vague generalization, but not knowing your strategy/ies I can't attempt to be more specific. It's easy to underestimate the amount of R&D that's required; for example, I started coding an EA for a friend back in 2009, and even now -- and 4,000+ lines of code later -- we're still refining it. That's one reason why I no longer undertake these types of project, I don't have the stamina for them.

Anyway good luck, I hope that you can find a suitable programmer, and that the arrangement works out for both of you.

Okay, despite the obvious greed involved, you might consider alternatives to finding a "free" programmer you can scam. How about doing a modification to your design? This was something I did about 2 years ago and made it a lot less stressful because there is now less thinking and more time between trades. I converted to intraday swings. Since I believe an EA cannot be coded to do what I do, my only alternative was to trade more "sloppy". Doing so actually increased my consistency to a percentage I cannot share because it is definitely troll food.

Something to consider. If you think you are working too hard, then changing your strategy, or even the time frame you trade, might free up some of your effort. Depending on which one you do, a change of strategy would still require your time, but a change in time frame might not. You can set up an alert that will go off before your primary signals. Sure, it might be a fake signal, but it will remove you from your desk until there is something to possibly see. You can set it up to SMS and then either smartphone or go to computer to check its validity. This allows you to keep trading discretionary but not glued to the screen. Trailing stops will keep you sane while you are not monitoring the market.

Since you trade OPM, (other people's money), presumably, this may not be an option for you, so just offering it as a possible alternative business plan. It could free you up, while keeping your method secret.

So why not looking for a slave at your merci beeing paid in intangibles? If you manage a 100 Mio USD fund with a 2% management fee and a 25% performance fee (if you are good and achieve approx 6% a year on average), than you should earn 3.5 Mio USD a year. Ohhh gosh....it's so funny.

Maybe it's time to ask yourself if you are far too long in this game and if your moral compass somewhere got lost along the way.

What I have read so far leaves the impression that you are most likely not a scientific person with a strategic approach based on statistics, science or technology. You sound more like the marketing guy, like a salesperson.... Are you working for a forex broker in the UK? Maybe at a trading desk? Maybe you have insight in how the retailers get fleezed on a daily level and some ideas to arbitrage the profit strategies of your employer..... yeahh, why not. That would a least somehow explain why you didn't approach your IT deparment to do this job.

Yes I can code in few languages, like C++ or VBA, but it would take a tremendous effort to learn coding actual EAs as i have no idea about the interface and neither i know python. Also my level of coding is not that advanced as i am looking for, and most importantly i have a 15h a day job being glued to the screens and trading which makes me totally drained in the evenings and weekends. So combine all of that, and try to code EA in the meantime. And no, I am not earning that kind of money by far and your assumptions there are wrong, but will not go into detail.

Regarding the rest of the stuff you wrote, sorry way too much BS to waste my energy on.

Seriously, sometimes I wonder what brings so many haters to a serious thread like this? Where do you take the energy from to write a post full of BS, hate and intimidation? I didn't ask for any of this, I just put it up here to find someone who is interested and the rest of the people feel free to comment if you have ideas which are constructive. If it's not the case shut up and focus your time on something more productive

I don't care what you can smell ...

But regarding your question, this is what I told the guy I found: we speak, I share some ideas / things i've been thinking about for a while, and then it's entirely up to him if he codes it or not, i.e. the person has to think there is something into the idea, otherwise we just part ways.

And yes, I do know how markets really function, because i've been on all the sides of the fence (Sell side, buy side, retail), the sad truth is that most of the people here have no idea about how different currencies normally behave in certain periods / different weeks / months / month ends / intraday moves around fixings, openings, option related flows and what are the reasons for it and when does it become an ineffective move i.e. providing an edge. Hence most keep running in a circular reference trying to find indicators, EA combinations without real understanding of the market, which normally results in a very poor outcome.

Thanks for the suggestion, unfortunately that couldn't work with the size of the capital and the way i run risk. Working very hard is a part of the game - i am sure you know that. And it is a hell of a difficult thing to make consistent returns - more experience a person has, more he agrees and understands that statement, less experience, more rainbow glasses - at the end, the marketing push for forex is so huge that no one can really blame people for having rainbow glasses.

It just occurred to me that there are some very skilled programmers at asirikuy. Their founder Daniel Fernandez has a colossal knowledge, and has written extensively, on algorithmic trading. I'm not sure how their community operates, you would need to inquire yourself. I believe that they're more into a statistical/data mining/machine learning angle, but somebody there might well be interested in a fresh approach to mechanical trading, especially if there is a good chance of its being profitable.

This is a waste of time.

I understand anthropology and psychology, economics, politics, physics, mathematics, and programming. I've also spent 15+ hour days watching the markets for months... along with 10 years of searching for the edges before I stepped foot in the markets. I had dreams of creating an EA a decade before I found out they even existed.

Let me make this quite clear; No programmer can understand what they need to do for you unless they also understand trading. If you understand trading then you don't need a programmer. You need more discipline and to figure out for yourself why you're doing a job you don't love passionately.

Sorry friend... I don't know who you are... but based on what you have posted in this thread, you are heading in the wrong direction...

If you have an edge based on whatever it is ( example, you claim that you know how markets really function), then all you need to do is to acquire super discipline, master your own psychology and enough money to trade.
