Fundamentals create pending orders.

Technicals analyze filled orders.

One is predictive in nature, the other is after-the-fact. If you think you know the future, trade fundamentals. If you prefer to chase the money, trade the technicals.

The US dollar was down against the Japanese Yen on Friday. By the closing of the American session USD/JPY was trading at 112.84, shedding 0.36%. I believe that the support is now located at the level of 112.62, the low of Friday's trading, and resistance is likely at the level of 114.97 - the maximum of Wednesday.

In near term, due to increasing political risks, USD/JPY may drop to 111.00, followed by 110.00.

Dollar/yen had a bullish momentum earlier today, hitting 113.70. Trade signals are up for testing 114.00/30 in the near future. But overall I still prefer a bearish scenario at this phase and any upward pressure should be seen as a good opportunity to short positions. The nearest support is at 113.35. A clear break below that area could lead price to neutral trading zone testing 112.65.

The dollar recorded a second consecutive loss against the yen on Thursday. The US currency continued the negative trend from the previous session and reached the lowest level for this week. However, the pair is trading above support at 115.56. The launch on Thursday was given at a price of 113.29 by early trend was neutral. Around noon bearish sentiment prevailed and currencies hit bottom at 112.54. The finale was put 6 pips higher.

you can use both but what you will struggle with is just trading with technical analysis. You can however trade on just fundamental analysis

The dollar changed unsignificantly near a seven-week high against other major currencies. Traders are taking profits after the recent rise of the dollar. The dollar has a growing against the probability of a US interest rate hike this month.
Currency pair USD/JPY was down by 0.12% to 114.42.

USD/JPY marked neutral session on Tuesday. The dollar added only 9 pips at a closing price of 113.97. Daily extreme values were reached respectively at 113.72 and 114.14. Given the prevailing positive attitude in the short term to overcome the next level will be indicative of further growth.

The British pound was up against the US dollar on Friday. By the close of US trading, GBP/USD was trading at 1.2170, gaining 0.04%. I believe that support is now at 1.2134, Thursday's low, and resistance is likely at 1.2302, Monday's high.

The dollar tumbled against the yen on Wednesday. The session starts relatively quietly at a price of 114.73. After the Fed's statement, however, the price went down sharply and the pair hit bottom for the day at 113.17, breaking the first support at 113.53. If bearish sentiment continue to prevail, the pair will test the level at 112.54. The finale on Wednesday was put at 113.46.

really interested in this thread. Just finished a course in macroeconomic fundamental drivers. The problem being, for each of the drivers there is very little correlation between that and price action. For those that say, use fundamentals to determine the direction of the trend, and TA for entry/ exit, what better way to determine the trend then by looking at, say the PA on monthly or weekly candles? Understanding fundamentals contextually seems important for getting the 'big picture', but can anyone point to a concrete real world example where a piece of fundamental data, a percentage change or a statistical distribution outcome, produced a trade idea that wasn't apparent to someone with a sharp eye for TA? I know hedgefunds seem to use fundamentals as the backbone of their trade ideas, but HFs have not been performing well lately. There certainly seems to be a case for saying since NIRP or long term low rates have come a reality, alot of fundamentals just dont work like they are 'supposed' to. Any thoughts?

well i personally think trading based on fundamentals is not good. being fully dependent on fundamentals is not good but trading based off of technicals and using fundamentals as a guard will help gaurantee a traders success

Actually, you need to pick an approach without ignoring the enviroment. You can't isolate in your own metodology. That's like fanatism.

I use both approaches in conjuction, but mostly technical analisys since I'm a really short term trader and if I use too much fundamentals it will basically be News Trading.

Either way, both methodologies can be cuantified (and exploited). For example, let's say ALL your technical indicators agree to do one way, but the sentiment index (or opened positions, DOM L2, etc.) is telling you otherwise... what would you do with that kind of "Approach Divergence?

Just a thought.
