North Finance under DOS Attack

I just heard from North Finance that they came under a DOS Attack that started just before todays NFP. Their sites and Metatrader servers have been down since then.

I've seen this kind of attack on another broker consistently during NFP.

Darn... it happens again when I write this...
still don't know why the server is down, can't contact the support team of North Finance...

It's good to know that the problem's on their end and not a corrupt program on my end. I have to revise my strategy with North Finance trading to place an order and stop loss and take profit well ahead of major trading events. At least they honored those last time the server went down. Lol as I speak it finally connects after 2 hours

And cuts out again, like it did for 3 hours on 9/1/06. I hope North Finance at least posts a response on it's web site about what it's doing to limit this denial of service, and soon

I was able to get a response from North Finance through their live chat feature. Their ISP server is having problems and they urge calm in this difficult situation. I appreciate they responded

I've contact the CS and they told me to calm down as they working to fix their platform.

I can't believe it happened again. If I am not mistaken, an ISP can guarantee their services against a DDOS attack. They have to pay a premium for that service, but most ISPs provide that service. If someone can confirm this, I think it would speak volumes of what NF is really all about. If there are ISPs that can provide their service without the threat of a DDOS attack and NF did not choose one, that says that they are not as concerned as we need them to be about our money, in my opinion. Can someone confirm this?

Hungry --- they haven't built an isp that can withstand all attacks. If attacks can crash the isp's for the Pentagon, White House, Microsoft, anything can crash

Received a meta trader e-mail from North Finance a half hour ago, explaining their isp's been under an "internet attack" since 9/01/06, and the situation's under control at the present time.

What is disturbing however is that North Finance has been targetted and all clients will suffer from this. Possibly a disgruntled former client or a jealous competitor

Hungry Hyippo what you say is incorrect. You can with a ddos (yeah it's a difference, and this is what they are getting) attack take out the whole backbone the ISP is sitting on. What is the ISP going to do then? And if you have several ISP's to get redundancy? What would it help if they are all on the same backbone and that is taken out?

What sucks with these kind of attacks, are the fact that they are too easy to do. Coupled with the fact that it's almost impossible to locate the source of it, it can be a real hassle.
