Keep one strategy or looking for something new?

Please, explain your thoughts about imptoving of trading for you. So, do you use one strategy and improve it to get the highest skill. Or, you change your strategy and looking for new one each time when it become unprofitable.
What is your way to success?

It's like learning a craft. You build up your skills on just one strategy for 10,000 hours before you decide to learn something else.

I have been trading volatility breakouts for quite some time now. There are times when it wouldn't work so I'm always on the lookout for a different strategy.every now and then on a demo account. When I'm done tweaking it and it starts to show potential, then I trade that strategy with a small account.

Depends on so many aspects of trading, some times our strategy work and sometime it does not. Sometime i feel like to change my strategy and then i go back to the previous one.

Where is your business plan? You develop your strategy according to how you want to trade.

1. Hours of the day you plan to trade.
2. Pairs that are active during your trading hours.
3. Preferred time length of trades. Intraday, Daily, Weekly, Monthly.
4. Method to find entries/exits. Breakouts, historical lines, news releases, trend trades, range trades, etc.
5. Demo analysis of entry/exit effectiveness.
6. Continuous process improvement to adjust bugs.
7. Expand through multiple pairs and additional traders.

OR, like most losers do, create a webpage to sell your garbage and disappear.
OR, you can pretend to be a trader and sell educational materials.

Never demand specific profit levels. The market will give you whatever it will give you within the parameters of your trading technique. The only true measurement is whether or not you woke up and implemented your plan during the hours you selected.

If you are in the trading business, you act like a business and develop a process to make profit. Once you are profitable, you choose between hedge or proprietary business models. (The difference is whose money is at risk). If you are a gambler, then keep hunting for the next best thing. If you are an investor, find someone to trade for you. Good Luck.

Plan your trades, trade your plan.... and stick with it!
In the end, you are not trading against brokers, institutions, banks, macro economics, etc etc but you are trading against or with yourself. Find out if it matches your plan each and every time. Emotions can be a kill-factor in this business. I am pretty sure many traders know these facts by now but are unable to be consistent. I was unable once, true that. But once i sticked with my 'business-plan', like dkrock explained, i managed to be profitable ever since.

3. Ignore most if the posters on FF (you need to be good enough to do it alone)- it will cloud your thinking

Here is what works for me

Fundamental analysis- this means keeping and eye on what institutional trsders are looking at. This is usually geopolitical,central bank speeches and figures that CB are are looking at. Also gauging how well an economy is performing. Have they changed their interest rate bias.
On top of that there is the day to day selling and demand of currencies by banks
Then there is up coming data or speeches. So the markets will react going into these events
Then there is the retesting of certain levels and prices
Regarding spikes quite often it involves a retest of a pivot or fix etc...banks can drives prices towards levels for orders
Obviously on top of that there is TA. I mainly use wycoff, some market profile and most definitly pivots and s/r.
Fundamentals determine bias. TA confirm, enter and exit the markets.
As a previous poster said its an art.

I have a variety of tools in my toolbox, and am always looking to add new tools. If I see the price behaving a certain way and want to trade it but don't know how, I work for the next few months developing a new tool for it, i.e. figuring-out how and when an entry would and would not work under those circumstances. I have two very reliable tools which I use most of the time (when the price gives me the opportunity) and a few others which I use more conservatively.

Ultimately, it makes no difference to have 100 of ways, if you don’t have one good one. So, it is not right to try too much instead always go for quality not quantity. I prefer one strategy and I always try to enhance it because trying too many things is ultimately not going to lead us anywhere and is only going to make things further complicated, it should be thing to AVOID!

Strategy is a plan of action or policy designed to achieve a major or overall aim. In forex trading it is very important to set a trading strategy. Every trader has their own strategy. Someone like day trading or shorter trading and someone like long term trading, someone like moving average and someone like support resistance. So every trader set their trade in their own way.

Trading with a specific trading strategy is much reliable! I see, all of professional Forex traders have particular trading plan and strategy; and they follow their trading plan so honestly! That’s way, in my demo account I work with multiple trading strategies to find out my best one! In addition, now I use a specific trading strategy in my live chart!

A strategy never "become unprofitable", either it is profitable or it is not profitable.

Even a broken clock give you the right time 2 times a day, but this doesn't mean it has ever been working well.

In any case, if rats gnaw through the bottom of your ship in the middle of the ocean, the only way to save - fix it.
And if you have the opportunity to improve your skills, don't lose this chance.

One way to make money stable is to get the plan. I agree with this. And I see that how many traders-so many opinions. I have some troubles because the fact that market always changes and in the same time keep his rules. But I lost in thought about that we are not trade against brokers or banks, we are trade against yourself. And I think that many traders have the same problem with choice: when strategy stop works what should I do? Change or improve. But I see that many traders think that the best way is a developing of the strategy. I think that once each strategy will stop to bring enough profit.

You seem to have experience with more than one strategy. Consider choosing only the parts that work and then put them all together in your own template.

Hello , im now a customer of Teletrade, when i joined here, they brought me a lot of strategies from easy to complicated , and one of the easiest and most effective strategy is using Exponential Moving Average 20&30 combine with Stochastic Osccilator to choose the place to put any orders . It really helpful when i do not have much time to keep my eyes on the MT4 systems day by day. I think they will have some strategies which fit which some traders like me here.Thanks

I am a firm believer in the “Don’t fix that which isn’t broken” adage. If you have a strategy that works, don’t try to change it around.
That said, nothing is stopping you from experimenting with other strategies on a demo account. We’re always growing, always developing, always looking for something new.

We need to change strategy, from time to time, if we wanna become successful in Forex Trading.

Using any strategy, the odds are against you that you will win. Therefore you increase your chances of winning (for that instant) if you switch strategies
The worst you can do is to "learn everything there is to learn about some strategy", because in fact, nothing works.

Totally agree. It is not bad to stick with a strategy that you know it is working for you. It can only go bad if you start ditching the rules your strategy is built of. Also, it is fine to experiment with different strategies from time to time, because every trader evolves and his preferences might change with the time.

Yeah, that all depends on the situations, that we select the same strategy or we rely on some other strategy.
