Hello karasinga.
If I may, there are two reasonable definition of (up) trend:
1. price makes higher highs and higher lows and we can draw a trend line / impact line (weaker definition),
2. price removes supply zones and creates/respects demand zones (stronger one due to our trading style).
NZDUSD on daily chart is in up trend due to definition no. 1, but as far as I remember there was no supply zone removed in this up rally so be careful

I absolutely share this. Thats what I do (and many SD traders I know). According to your point (2).
Here are some comments if I may. (I hope this is not against the forum SD rules here.)

Uptrend:

1) Draw a trendline connecting the last 2 valleys BELOW the price.
2) It is an uptrend if a trendline can be drawn and at least 1 supply zone has been taken out.

Downtrend:

2) Draw a trendline connection the last 2 peaks ABOVE the price.
2) It is a downtrend if a trendline can be drawn and at least 1 demand zone has been taken out.

We dont connect continuation pattern candles.

A trend is broken as soon as one full (OHCL) candle is outside the trendline. Current candle [index 0] is not considered.

A broken uptrend is called bullish consolidation.
A broken downtrend is called bearish consolidation.

Citigroup is on my watchlist. Monthly up. Monthly SZ broken at all time high. But bearish engulfing. Entry timeframe W1. Consolidated away 2:1 in weekly. Waiting for confirmation 2 timeframes lower: H4.

USDCNH, I wish I would have been here. Daily DZ nested in weekly played out very nicely. We also had trendline confluence in MN1. When price came back 2nd time still tradable but with confirmation only.
