Good job. I finished BE+1. It went up 9 pips but then the spike came.

I so hope nobody took a 12 pip loss on that one, that would be a bit of a body blow. Happy with my decision to take 10 pre news, could just have easily gone the other way

I moved my SL to BE once the price moved 10 pips up, and right before the news it took my BE and moved 8 pips down and the stupid broker took my money for 8 pips as well. I had a gut feeling that the price would move up crazy like this...

Super salty. My stop was triggered on UJ, even though fxcm is showing an ask price 3.4 pips ABOVE my stop. then i watch it rip through both of my targets.

USD/JPY +10 pips profit just few minutes before the news! Congratulations to all who took it! If somebody tries to trade my levels with higher SL/Profit in this case it was best to close the position in +10 pips because of the incoming news.

it is a big ticket news item, and stops either need to be a long way away or ones that make sure your capital is safe, Yen does spike a lot at news time. Well at least nobody has come on and said they had a stop triggered with slippage, that can also easily happen around news time as there are generally no limit orders in place around the price at news time. I'm sorry you were done rabhni, put it down to the learning experience and you know what to do next time

But you buy on the ask and sell on the bid right? Did your bid cross your sl?

Just a thought - If there is a macro event so close to the trade signal even those of you who trade with higher SL/PT could try to go in the trade with a bigger position and play it just 10/12. The reason is that 10 minutes before macro news it is unlikely that the market will make 20 pips before the release.

The ASK buys trades open, and sells them back close. So yes, the bid hit my SL, but it shouldnt have taken me out of the position, I have a mini account (under 5k) so im subject to FXCM's dealing desk, not the free market. Time to nut up and get a big boy account. I had a trade on monday not trigger because of a similar dealing desk issue. No more.

Trading the News can be doable with these levels. It is a matter of factoring in the fundamentals. Yellen is looking to continue raise rates in 2017 as long as things staying the course and not seeing too much of a deviation in the numbers when they are released. It is a matter of having to let the trade setup breathe (trade smaller and go for higher targets based on the momo that follows afterwards). I know it is easy to say and hard to implement based "real" money at stake. Just have to practice with screen time. I am still long usd/jpy for the next hour or so til momo slows down.

just a thought here, I'm sure many are trading with ECN brokers, and there is next to no liquidity around major news with the main liquidity providers, at these times you are hostage to fortune as the spread can widen markedly - the spread will be the distance between the closest limit orders, and they can be a long way apart. It's not as bad as it once was, but I have seen in the past on Oanda the spread on cable widen to 40 pips, I'm not kidding. This is what you face around news time, far better if using an ECN broker to simply close your trade pre news. If that downward spike kept going there is no telling where you might have been filled.

Thanks Ziggy, I have traded news for some time and I know how these brokers screw us during the news.
