Searching for a new narrative

Popcorn at the read today as President elect Trump has a scheduled news conference later in the day (around 16:00 GMT). Markets have become used to listening to him in 140 characters or less over the recent weeks, so a more elongated narrative should be welcome. Its pretty clear that the dollar strength has stalled, with the uptrend seen since the US election results waning on a technical basis. The week so far has seen some reversal of the recent weakness, but this has been within very narrow ranges. This held true for cable yesterday, which posted a low at 1.2108 before recovering through the day. Note that BoE governor Carney speaks this afternoon in front of the parliamentary Treasury select committee, so sterling will be keeping a close eye on that. As discussed yesterday, sterling remains the only major currency weaker against the dollar in the short year to date.
Elsewhere whilst the Dow continues to struggle with the 20k area, the FTSE has continued its push north, not having seen a down day since before Christmas. Gold has also been doing a decent job of brushing off the weakness seen in the closing weeks of last year, having now recovered 4% from the lows. The move has outpaced the reversal of the dollar turn-around, underlining the fact thats its more than just about the currency for gold. Before Trump oclock, we have UK trade and production data at 09:30 GMT. Otherwise, were likely to see a fairly tentative market through the day, both in FX and equities.

What would you say will follow when seeing this setup?
It is 15m TF.

I would go for USDJPY short..

However, the opposite occured (which I understand can happen too), any way to avoid false setups like this one?

Make it like artaville showed us the post before. You need to add higher TF to know the trend.
Add again the same indicator again to chart with the setting use higher TF.
USD was in uptrend and JPY was in down trend. 100 pips to make!
(Next time please post a full chart like I do so we can know the time and some history.)

Remember if you use multi time frame than we need also CHART HISTORY on H1 !
Use your update quote profiles. Check here post 20
We want to have a correct chart feed in all the time frames you want to use.
Good is to have an other 7 mini charts of USD-pairs in H1 but for higher TFs it is not as important as for the smaller ones.

PS : SL trailed

The CAD and JPY were in up/down MFib levels in m5 timeframe earlier ( nearly in m15 also ) so that can be (maybe ) an extermum point with potential
for Reversal or Counter Trend .
But the trend direction in m5 and m15 was not the same, then i was waiting for OGap in m5 that was accompanied with IGap in m15 timeframe .

Is my procedure is correct Bernhard ?
Please advise if there anything wrong or any recommendation.

artaville I am sure you have missunderstand something. The lower TF is used for the dGAP and strategy rules. The higher TF is been read as direction of CS to stay in the trend. This might be what you are saying "the acceptable mode". If you put too strong filters on both TFs you will find less trades. It also depends of distance of TF or the multiplicator factor of the two TFs. Is higher TF 4 times bigger or 12 time or 2x ? This will effect how to find continuations with the lower TF. Hello friends,
today from Frankfurt session I was eyeballing EURUSD, USDJPY and GBPUSD setup (please excuse different colours of currencies on my charts)..
Due to other issues, I manage to get into GBPUSD long (did not trust EURUSD and USDJPY was already too far for me).
See info in screenshot.
I closed half of the position for 20p (as I believe, this is a countertrend trade), the rest is trailing SL.
EDIT: the rest closed for 41p.

And this is what I am currently looking at USDCAD (short).

EDIT1: it seems USD will on H1 go "upstairs" too, let's see, if CAD upstairs can out-pace USD.

EDIT2: got stopped out during new for -15p..
