Hello,
This is a great forum.

Any ideas on an ema(s) I can use on 3 min chart so I can identify trend for my breakout strategy?
Does a trader just try all emas combinations to see what work? Manual Backtesting this can take forever.
If not, I will test a 10,20,50, and 100 ema to get the trend right before taking any breakout trades.
Well, i been discretionary trading breakout strategy lately with some success (paper trading) with my resistance and support lines, with no indicators. I define trend by just looking at the price direction with my eyes intraday trading every morning.
If price is going up, get long on the next resistance breakout, price going short, get short on the next support breakout.
Well, now I want to program and validate my strategy and back test it over +10 years historical data, but I have no way to logically/mathematically identify trend to program it. I can't program my eyes.
I guess if I program the strategy I can try many different EMAs combinations during automated backtesting. Maybe I need to learn to program my strategy(s) for faster backtesting.
Thanks,
