Hi Dave:

In Fibs, can the parameters recognize fib numbers like 87.5 or 0.125?

Thank you.

Not at this stage but could be added if there is demand.

Dave, I have been following evolution of Agility Trader and it is an awesome piece of work, you must spend an incredible amount of time coding and recoding. I was also interested in your Hitchhikers guide, which are very wise words, however was wondering if there was a third installment? Have been coming to grips with Agility Trader which is a bit of a learning curve, but hopefully will have something constructive to offer in future. Many Thanks.

My next instalment will be to provide actual set files which I will discuss in detail to support the Hitchhikers series.

Naturally there will an emphasis on the money management factors but I will explore news releases, trading times and use of Pivots and Fibonacci and a couple of technical indicators - RSI and WMA.

I am unsure how many people will request for or find it useful but is there any possibility of including Sharpe ratio in the back test results? Be good to know if the resulting back test gains are produced with the improved parameters are actually riskier.

Thanks Dave.

Hi Dave,
Have been testing this amazing piece of software and trying to give my contribution.
For a week I have been running AT3 on a chart in scanner mode, another AT3 in autotrade mode and another with AT version 2 with the same settings.
No trades where opened in any of the AT3 charts, but backtest show some trades, and AT v2 opened those trades.
More curious is the backtest trades in the attached file. Please notice in the last line, the trade was closed BEFORE the open date/time.
Can you help me clarify what's going on?
Thanks in advance

I cannot help you without copies of your set files and specific details. The most common reason trades are not made, is that multiple charts are using the same Magic Number. The last line on a list of trades does not necessarily indicate a closed trade.

Hi Dave,
Sorry for the questions:

1. I tried to find AG3 by clicking the link on AG2, but it sent me to " SteveHopgoods" site but there was no trace of you there. Should that link be changed?

2. In the your instructional Video you show a strategy with Fibonacci placed on the graph following a downtrend where the retrace gains are reducing as the price rises instead of rising as the price increases ie: 23.6,38.2, 50 etc. Is this a deliberate trading strategy?

3. I have a 2MA crossing indicator that I am testing through a trading simulator, but from what I understand with custom indicators there could be a need to remove some external variables. As I only have the .ex4 file does this means I cannot use it with AG3.

Your comments will be most welcome
Regards Allonso

You are in the Agility Trader 3 thread and all the info is at Post #1.

Regarding the retrace percentages, that is a mistake. It should be reversed.

You cannot use a custom indicator unless you are able to remove the extraneous external variables and that means you will need the source code. Incidentally you don't need a custom indicator to use a moving average cross. Just use "crosses above" or "crosses below" on any of the included SMA, EMA or WMA standard indicators on any timeframe(s).

Steve Hopgood deleted all my posts and I have now amended the link in AT2.

Hi Dave - great work you have done creating this platform, my hat goes off to you.

I have only just began "playing" with Agility Trader2.

I have noticed the following and wonder if you have some reasoning of the results.

I entered some RSI and SMA values for buy and sell conditions and ran Backtest. Then I ran the same parameters for optimization including multiplier and was happy with a particular set of results. I restarted AG2 then entered those same result figures and ran a backtest, which I would have assumed would end up with the same results as previous.

I found that the figures for the first optimization showed profit of $460, yet backtest on very same parameters showed -$105 return.

I tried this on quite a number of varying values and strategies with same result.
I figured that being the case no need to supply you with txt file etc. Apart from that - with the free trial version I am unable to save preset files anyway.

I love what you have done here and really do appreciate your time and effort. So to quote Pauline Hanson, Could you "please explain".
Cheers.

You should have ended up with exactly the same results.

I do remember replying to a similar post where I researched the problem and determined that MT4 will only start assessing trades after the lookback period has been accounted for in the date range requirements whereas AT2 will adjust the date range so that the lookback period is valid right at the beginning of the date range.
http://www.forexfactory.com/showthre...11#post9051011

For example, if using RSI(14), the data considered will commence 14 bars before the date range requirements.

If you are in fact running a retest using the same AT2 platform, then it is possible that there is either a programming error or a subtle difference in the inputs.

At this stage, I would prefer that you concentrate on AT3.

I have just realized that I left out the third instalment of the Hitch Hiker series so I am reproducing it here.

A HITCH HIKERS GUIDE TO PROFITABLE TRADING - third instalment
===============================
Understanding the difference between low spread and commission.

Some brokers advertise a fixed spread (say 2.0 pips so the cost of entering and exiting a trade is 2 pips)

Other brokers advertise a variable spread (say 1.5 pips exists at the time of the trade) and a fixed commission for each trade. That means commission on both Entry and Exit.

Be very careful because this second broker actually costs you more. Entry cost is 1.5 pips (spread) and Commission of .5 pips giving a total of 2 pips, and the Exit cost is .5 pips Commission so in actual fact the total cost of the trade is 2.5 pips. Always be aware of the spread when entering and exiting a trade.

The easiest way to display spreads in MT4 in by right clicking on the header of the symbol list and checking the Spread column. Also there are many spread display indicators available within the Forex Factory forums.

The cost of trading together with the overnight interest charges has a most significant impact on your trading and you should actively consider your brokers charges and current spread when entering and exiting trades.

This reference makes interesting reading.

Thank you for highlighting that discrepancy.

On examining the code, I have noticed that, in one of my updates, I have moved the auto update of open trades into an area where the update is not occuring on each tick.

It will be corrected in the next update in a couple of days.

Hi Dave,
I have been trying out the AgilityTrader3 companion.
Could you please explain how to delete a condition.
Example - 3 x Buy Exit conditions, how do you delete one of them?
Cheers
