MetaQuotes abandons MT4, turns entirely to MT5 trading platform

From the very little I have learned about this, it's different programming languages, hence the reluctance to switch, and the major difficulty.

Certainly if it was as easy as converting the files, there would be no problem but do some research if you need more information.

They just announced to stop upgrading it as they are promoting MT5.

As long as people rely on MT4 (purchasing stuff via MQL for example) they would be stupid to kill their pick of the bunch, although they want us to move.

It was only a matter of time.

MT5 is a marketing scheme to give less power to the user and more power to the "Market Place" This is why there is extreme reluctance to allow MT4 code to run in MT5.

If it ain't broke, why fix it?

I've never liked MT4 and MT5 is even worse! Amin!

MT4 isn't going anywhere in a hurry. I expect the vast majority of brokers will still be offering it 2 years from now.

This is a BIG issue for FF.
Many threads here rightly or wrongly, rely on MT4 indicators and EAs to identify setups. If MT4 being phased out this is a big issue.
Metaquotes has always been a crap platform for serious trading, BUT its been an amazing platform for beginners and amateur coders to cut their teeth on. and share their work and experience. I still use it to run some quite brilliant indicators as advisorys to market and price action.
The advent of MT5 of course created a monetized market in providing exactly the same stuff. For planning purposes of course it was a failure with many people running MT5 or other much better platforms for execution but MT4 for setup.
Needless to say except in the business of EA trading ..MT5 got little support.

Back to Dukascopy ... MQ persistently tries since 600+ update to force people to trade MT5 without Hedge and of course without good old EAs & Indys. Are we so good? Are the brokers so afraid of losing so they force MQ on this move?

I suppose it depends on how this transition works. If it's like most other popular software (eg. Windows), then we will be able to carry on using MT4 for years. On another note, from what I've heard MQL4 and 5 are now quite similar (ever since 600), but even if they are not, and MQL4 follows MT4's lack of support, people should have plenty of time to learn how MQL5 works.

This is a good news. This means no more stupid updates and we can run our ea for infinite times without any headache's.

As soon as they reach a certain satisfactory number of traders on MT5, first thing to do is ---> remove the Hedge.

Brokers won't switch to mt5 for next 10 years.

use mt4 for next 10 years, after that we shall see whats next....mt5 is flop since beginning.

I don't want to re-code my EA for MT5...

Let me use my MT4 EA in MT5.

If I'm forced to re-code, I will stop using MT.

It's almost like MQ wants to lose customers...
