What's a Good Winning Percentage?

i was curious what is a good winning percentage in forex? i'm relatively new at forex trading(previous stock trader). i'm currently trading at 75% win percentage. my avg loss is about 7 pips and average win is about 10 pips.

It's no different than equities. And if you're trading at that percentage, then get ready to retire in a year.

hmmmmmm...interesting way to start a thread.

What's your method to get such a high winning percentage? We don't mean to be skeptical, but it always raises an eyebrow when some starts a thread with a blurb like that.

changed the title so it doesn't sound like an advertisement. my system is relatively simple one. first off i avoid all news releases and only trade the Japanese session because i find it to be safer the biggest loss i ever had was like 20 pips. i'm a manual trader so i don't really use complex formulas just indicators and trend analysis. don't make a whole lot since my average is like 10 pips but it adds up. believe me im not trying to show off or sell something since i have no interest in doing so i was just curious about whats a good winning percentage because forex is way more risky and 1 loss could wipe you out. not so in stocks really.

The answer to your original question is: It depends

I knew you'd love that answer...but it's true. If your profit target is 1 pip and your stop loss is 100 pips. Then 75% would actually suck monkey privates...after all, you'd have to trade 100 times so that 1 loss could take you back to break-even...

now, from what you're saying...10:20 with an average of 7 pips, 75% is right pretty good. Not overly jumping for joy or anything, but you definitely will be profitable, and eventually, quite rich.

Winning percentage is irrelevant in trading in my opinion. You can get 90% winning trades but if the 10% losing trades wipe out the gains, then those statistics are deceptive.Likewise, if you have only 40% winning percentage, if the winning trades outweigh the losing trades, then you have a good system. The key to making money in trading is to manage your account properly regardless what system you use. Pay attention to risks before your potential gains

In my opinion, winning percent basically must be above 40%. I have test my system to trade different currency pairs and i find out that my average winning percentage is between 46% - 50% but I still have money on those currency pairs

The only one currency pairs i lose is NZD/USD it have good winning percentage of 47% but still lose around -$80.7.

On the other hand, i have one very low winning percent on usd/jpy which is 35% but still have a net profit.

The one I will not trade is USD/CAD. it have only 25% and have net loss.

Well if you fall much below 50% as it's a 50/50 game give or take abit for spread, then you've got a problem, with your SL's that tight you likely should expect 30% win rate so therefore 75% is KICKING!!!


so to make it easy

= 23pips per 4 trades or average 5.75 pips per trade.

Keep that up, get to $10 per pip, 4 trades per day $230 per day, do me nicely.

Keep doing it and upping the Lot size slowly as not to scare yourself into failure!!

you really cant ask what's a good percentage without asking what's a good R:R and so everyone will give you a different answer based on some R:R in their mind, for me i consider 65-60% with 4:6 is fantastic specially for intraday traders when you play it right IMO
I recommend you read something else as this sentence is now concluded.

I remember when I started in 2002 I looked at all the sites, signals, reports etc and after a while realised that people smehow become quiet (paid sites that is) when they have a loosing streak. And that does happen of course...You have a full month of winners and after that net loss for the full month. Somehow those records are lost from signal providers (or paid tutorial) sites.

Or, as we all know what statistics can do, they would show average for 3 months or whatever period shows profitable time frame. It is easy to do. manipulating stats is easy, so looking for %ge in absolute terms is useless. because most of us want short term gain especially in the begining, otherwise why would we trade daily?

I'm 100% to, 2 trades 1 nearly hit my 20SL, got out with +3 and the other with +1, but still 100%!!!

Must start trading again proper I guess, need the money.

Depends on the style of your trading.. it's all relative.
