Ever since MT4 updated its version. If one needs to add his own customized indicator, he has to go into File then Open Data Folder, then copy and paste. This makes it really hard to do in Ubuntu.

I have Ubuntu 14.04 and Wine. I can not get into my broker's MT4. I get some sort of server error. I think the problem is Wine doesn't run executable files.

it works perfectly on mine machine here I witched to Element OS. Same core. works fine.

If you want to trade on Linux simply install VirtualBox and then install Windows.

You can use Wine but it's not the best solution for running Windows software on Linux.

Absolutely not. If you want to trade on Windows install Windows and trade there.
If you want to trade on Linux just run it under wine it is the best solution.
if it asks for proxy settings while installing install winhttp (winetricks winhttp)
you also need to add / replace /usr/share/wine/fonts/wingding.ttf
Everything runs pretty smooth.

pretty much this, i wouldn't say it runs smoothly tho, if you load it with indicators/ea the CPU usage will get off the chart and you'll experience some freeze.
as usual with linux, there is always something that doesn't work right.


if you really need to trade using linux, just use a web based platform, most broker have them, and i think Metaquotes also have their own on their website you could use.

I don't really experience significant lags in mt4 via wine, my CPU usage is only slightly higher. Web based platforms aren't a real alternative in my eyes.
I don't need to trade using Linux but I choose to. It's a secure OS and it's generally fast (faster than windows) on my aged computer.
Good thing is, if problems occur there is a big community out there willing to help. Not going to convert anybody, but I wouldn't say there is always something not working right. Other way around I had problems with windows which are harder to fix.

If anyone have similar issue....When while trying to download mt4 , and it asks for proxy server authentification ..user and password.
since i am not pro at using linux ...i found easier solution
Just download terminal from this link ...via your vps browser and install using wine.

It’s a web version indeed, number of features are smaller, yet from how MetaQoutes market the web-based terminals, more functionality seems to be on it’s way.

Cannot run on wine since ubuntu 14.04. And virtualbox doesnt help at all. I've been trying installing xp and win7 on vbox (ubuntu 14.04). Same problem happened, it crash right after I run the application.

Same problem happened, it crash right after I run the application. I already install the winetricks, what setting I need to do on winetrick for it will encounter that "proxy asking" problem. Thanks for your help.

Actually, if you run Linux and wish to also run Windows software, VirtualBox is the perfect solution, particularly if you have a good setup with multiple monitors. Obviously Wine is an alternative solution but certainly not a superior solution.

We run VirtualBox on Ubuntu 14.04 and other Linux distros with no problems. If you have a normal network configuration it should be fine once configured correctly. What is the exact issue?
