For thsoe interested in my current setup, here it is:
Bollingers (only for reference - non functional) - Standard MT4 Indy
Synergy Pro TDI (standard settings)
ADX (Period 13, two ref. lines at 30 and 50) -Standard MT4 Indy
This is a decent example of how the ADX should help.Attached you'll see six lines.The red lines are all buy/sell signals which the ADX would've filtered out.
Line 1) correct short
Line 2) correct long
Line 3) false short (which would've been a bad trade)
Line 4) false short
Line 5) correct short (TDI crossed below 68, then crossed over and backdown)
Line 6) correct long

Sorry to be a pain but my understanding of ADX is its best to get it while under 20 as this is the start of a new trend anything over 40 is the end of a trend. Id of only taken the while lines on this screebshot.

Here's a great example of how adding the ADX will keep you out of trouble. These are pretty recent signals, as you can see the cycle starts off with two bad trades (first two red arrows). Both of them get SL'd on that large dip around 04:00 of Feb 11th but shortly after the TDI crossed back over the TDI Signal (first blue arrow). That trades rode for over 200 points (see double blue arrow - exit arrows), which made up for the first two losses.
Then on Feb 15th at 00:00, a flase signal (yellow arrow) was triggered, because the ADX was too high. This trade would've been SL'd about 15 hours later. Then two more short trades (the fourth and fifth blue arrows) which rode for about 40 and 90 pips. Shortly after at 5:00 on the 19th we were hit with our latest long signal (currently 53 pips in the red). So all in all we are up around 80 pips rather than being down about 20.
This is the third pair I've manually backtested thison and the resultyare identical. Let me know if this isn't clear!

I trade it using the following rules:
Long when Green crosses up over red and yellow. Yellow has to be below 50% midline.
Short when Green crosses down over red and yellow. Yellow has to be above 50% midline.
(I also use it to spot divergences as noted on the chart.)
There's several different ways to trade off the TDI, this is how I trade it.
However as we all know, news and market events will defeat the best of positive trade indications.
