I know a person who has, in his way in becoming a full time trader, eventually got an offer to work as a hedge fund manager. That same person has a doctorate in philosophy. He didn't take the offer, I think it was due to the discrepancy between what he made per year with trading versus salary + benefits when he would had worked for that hedge fund.
So technically (I assume), one would have to work consistently profitable over a long period of time - and eventually they would be "noticed" by the same brokerage houses they're trading with. (Providing those brokerages are not low end of course).

When you mention discrepancy you mean he made so much more from trading than by working for them?

Broker was Charles Schwab.
Yes I believe so, or at least that's what he said. I remember him saying he went on an interview with them, and intermediary was a person from the brokerage. After the interview he decided not to accept the job.

Usually yes but figures or results in your own account are the most important consideration. Even someone have doctorate cert in finance or whatsoever, it doesn't means that he is fit to become a professional trader. I am a strategist in some prop company in China here and we do have trader here only with Diploma in IT and myself was Master's Degree in Accounting. As I said, it is still depends what figures you can produce instead of what certs you are holding.

By the way, if you think you wanna get hired by a prop company by trading totally naked position trading, I will advise you to forget about it. Many so called newbie professional trader thought that prop company will hired naked trader just as what I think many years ago and it is absolutely wrong.
