Like would forex ever be shut off to us retail traders? No one would benefit from that i don't think? For example the usa government trying to shut it off or the regulators is that likely to happen at all?

Yes... It will happen not because of regulation directly but because the leverage and liquidity we currently enjoy will no longer be available due to massive devaluation of assets on a global scale. Prices need to reset amd as a consequence leverage will be cut, leaving this game for only the well capitalised.. At some point its inevitable... Certainly sux

As long as the capitalist movement remains dominant we will be able to trade .for most part bucket shop retail can continue under most forms of regulation.most of our positions have no reflect on the real market.the offset of the overall negative or positive as a whole finds its way to market through real volume .when poker becomes illegal retail forex will follow or i should say no longer exist to participants unable to meet the higher echelons of value.

We have seen the beginnings of taking the retail trader out of the picture here in the US. The ever increasing "reserve" requirements along with the diminishing leverage has taken some of the power away from us. Leverage isn't the culprit, risk is the demon here. Leverage never blew up an account, people not knowing what they were doing blew up accounts. How many retail forex brokers are left in the US? Just a few and the requirements for opening an account are getting tougher. You need 10K minimum for Interactive Brokers.

I am surprised that the leverage levels haven't been reduced more than they already have. 40-50:1 is still reasonably risky for those who do not know how to manage it. How many accounts went negative during the CHF rampage back in January of 2015? It's serves as a great example of why you need to constantly manage your trades. A stop does you no real good if the price gaps way over it and it doesn't fill until nearly 1000 pips later. I wonder how many long term investors got pummeled when that really nice trend suddenly reversed in an epic fashion. Events like this cause some of the cry babies to go running to congress to talk about the "unregulated" FOREX industry and with the banking crisis still looming in many minds it won't take much to take more power away from us as retail traders.

Personally I recommend to not put all of your faith in income with FOREX. I use it primarily to fund other endeavors which provides me with multiple avenues of income. Diversification is the long term path to success.

The next few years should be interesting. We need to really watch what is being passed or proposed to the "lawmakers". It could get really bad and leverage could drop to 4:1 or less along with 50K account minimums in which the standard retail trader will not be able to comply with.

Just my opinion I don't have any real data to back my ideas. Just a gut feeling.

it is money sharing
people are learning and making money you are not alone the brokers hire people that live from it and also banks ,some win and then they loss only few win in a long term but we should keep learning and sharing money so forex is to stay

As an analogy, retail forex trading is to a "real job/career" what masturbation is to procreation.

The problem with America is CFTC and NFA and that they want everything that has to do with trading to be controlled by those two entities. Well since Forex is largely unregulated, decentralized they can't so they want to restrict it in the USA. As for the rest of the world I don't see it happening.

On the other hand you can always trade futures if they mess with forex...

I have been warning folks for a few years now to reduce their exposure to leverage... for those who use leverage. Either by reducing position size or increasing bankroll (or both). Sooner or later I expect leverage to be made a mandatory 1:1. You don't want to be put in a position to have your positions forced closed when that happens.

This seems to be a bigger issue for traders in the USA. And when leverage in the USA becomes 1:1 only, the retail forex industry will be pretty much dead. I don't know if every broker will shut down, but I suspect most will. The remaining brokers will only service investors with large capital.

This is stupid childish thinking. It just shows an ignorance of the world. You think working in a factory is productive? Its not its less productive actually. There your value is only maybe $15 or $20 an hour... with Forex your value can be a lot higher, thus more productive.

i personally do not see any difference for myself if leverage requirement go as low as 1:25 considering my risk management is tight. After all, forex is just...you know, part of investment game. like when you trade stock or bitcoin or whatever. I personally pay my bills through my own business so even if I just make 20% in a year from forex that's already good enough investment for me. Do not worry too much guys. investment comes and go all the time, you just have to diversify. so if one day you cannot make money from forex, you still make money from your other investments. also, i think forex is (generally) one of the most static industry in the world. Yeah sure we have been through leverage changes after CHF issue back in 2015 but compare it with issues in other investment worlds for the past decade. Changes in forex are very slow compared to other industries. I think the only industry that has way slower changes than forex (so far, from my own experience) is just the property industry but maybe that's because I live in third world country so not much regulation and law changes.

Lol 1:1 leverage, then why not go back to stone age Why do you think everyone moved away from 1:1 leverage in the first place? Not everyone's fault if someone doesn't know how to use leverage. Why would the rest of us be on the same boat with those who don't know how to use it?
