The Japanese are trying to get a hydrogen infrastructure installed. They have red-tape issues because the safety requirements in Japan are greatly more onerous than for gasoline infrastructure. The sums indicate that this will be competitive if the regulations can place the infrastructure on an equivalent footing. There is also the alluring aspect of zero carbon emissions. However, I guess we shall just have to wait and see...

Hey guys I am new here. Would lile to share some of my trades and analysis about oil (WT futures)
Here is one trade i took today. Trade made me 82 ticks. Comments and questions are welcomed.

Someinteresting developments while everybody was watching the FED, it seems.

..playing Saudis at their own game?


"In a partial victory to Obama and other Democrats, the spending bill also includes granting tax incentives to boost wind and solar development, according to lawmakers involved in the talks. Shares of solar companies rose sharply"

....so now even the US is pumping the alternative energy horn.

Maybe the Americans are playing the Saudi way now. We will pump endlessly as well and let the market determine how low oil prices go lol.. Let's see how low it will go after that. 2016 here comes $10 a barrel of oil lol...

35$ is quite strong option barrier so we might have problems breaking it. But you are in a good positions to reach your target.

I was discussing this yesterday and wondering if this legislation was the reason for the narrowing of the spread between wti and brent (or if the spread is likely to almost disappear because of this)?

I have not been trading oil long enough to know the answer but lately I have seen the correlation between wti and brent weaken I assumed this was due to the expected fed hike but now I'm wondering if wti will gain (slightly) from an increased market and brent will fall (slightly) from increased competition (hence close the spread).

Price difference between WTI and Brent is there because of the cost for production are much lower in OPEC compared to US shale production. This has nothing to do with FED rate hike.

Thanks, sorry if I'm way off the mark but I'm trying to get my head round why the spread is decreasing. Using what you have said am I right to assume that while the fed rate had no direct effect it has caused the dollar to surge. That surge then means the USD price of non US oil can lower while still providing same local currency price (as costs are in the local currency). Thus a substantial fall in the dollar would increase the spread accordingly?

From what Putin is reported to have said today(BBC Putin attacks Turkey), I think the real battle is between the West and Russia. Russian economy is heavily dependent on energy exports and a fall in oil price hurts them the most.
Anyway what do I know, I am not an economist nor an expert in International Relations.

My comment about playing the Saudis at their own game was based purely upon the fact that removal of the export ban is going to do at least one thing, it will increase the supply in the rest of the world. I wonder if we shall see a different edict from the US requiring local (to the US) industry to buy from US sources unless demand cannot be met.

That is an interesting view. I watch the news to check whatever is happening when the spread narrows. Usually a surge in US$ against everything else pushes down oil and gold pricing. There must be a fundamental value coefficient in there somewhere that I have not yet identified.

It is true that Brent costs more to extract, but narrowing of the spread can also be due to the fact that the market for Brent is more over-supplied than for WTI or equivalent. Allegedly Brent is a preferred oil to some other types and I always thought that to be the reason for the price differential.

Just saw an article that Fed is raising interest rate to prepare for the forthcoming balance sheet shrinking.

If they want to do so while keep the economy supported, then low commodity prices are obviously helpful.

Saudis are puppets of US, Russians/Venezuelans are enemies, no one cares too much about Canadians, so maybe this is why oil price is in a free fall, and no recover of any sort is in sight.

Some selling action from today.
I sold top edge when i saw correct orderflow at yesterday POC. It was trade with the strong holders. Trade has more of the potential to go lower but i decided to squeeze my trail stop little closer since we get the biggest volume of the day after we broke the lows so it might be profit taking from the institutions. Anyways it was +52 tick trade and not a bad day at all for one trade. Comments and questions welcomed...
