{quote} All retail platforms will have their issues, so lets not pretend they don't. Even in interbank fx the wholesale platforms have had outages and their budgets are far greater. The only solution is to have a couple of brokers.

that may be right but they have issues that are different and not always refered to connection problems.
i use mt4 on all and every broker i have ever traded with. I havent seen such thing as Ic markets. They always cut you in the middle of the action when there are great price movements, of course that is when you are losing or making money ! it is just not a normal broker to trade.
DonxYz mentioned me in a post and pepperstone. Pepperstone have done similar tricks 2-3 times to me , but generally it is much rare occurrence and it lasts for 1-2 minutes when i have seen it. Ic markets cuts your connection for 30-60 minutes, no support nothing. Just your money in a black hole ! So I am not defending pepperstone, I just come here to say that IC are absolute shit and avoid them at all costs ! I will ! About honest brokers, I seriously doubt there are any, brokers are in the business to make money, but they must be doing it in a mor elegit way ! bet against clinets, do whatever you want, manage a book. But you cant just cut connection to live accounts for one hour every other day !

with such a broker the only way to be profitable is to be lucky. I do not rely on LUCK for my trading , and I am not praying to no internet provider either.

Wow...again today.

Lotsa small TF traders might leave IC Markets because of this. Then again I think those who trade off big TFs are not affected.

[quote=Don_xyZ;8538861]{quote} I traded with $30k (not with IC Markets) and I got phone access to trade and from what they told me this service is not for every account holder so with your broker I'm guessing the minimum capital required must be $25k or beyond , yes? {quote}

Hi Don, Yes This broker has a minimum acct size ($10k) and that's more to do with the high level of regulation they come under which restricts them from opening accounts where this game is not appropriate for the investor. I believe anything less than that and you might as well go down to the casino anyway. As for charts, there are a multitude of free online charting services that I often use as an alternative.

As a separate point I love how $1k "traders" expect so much these days. Some here will remember 5 pt spreads and no charts apart from a weekly paper print out. Now it's all "where can I get zero spreads, my charts are down, etc etc"!!!!!!!!! Now I'm showing my age, will shut up.

Yes Hyperion I do remember 5 pips spread on FXCM back in 2004, I traded with other broker and had to deal with 8 pips spread n yes the weekly single page paper print out showing the latest situation in my trading account lols.

I think it's the 1:1000 leverage that's keeping the dream alive. Heck I've seen some broker offering 1:3000 to keep up with the demand xD xD xD

Is anybody out there noticing a lot of freezing of the IC markets platform over the last few days?

IC had been very stable for a long time but recently there are an increasing number of occasions when the platform freezes totally, sometimes for long periods.

I am in the middle of the current freeze right now.

Kind regards
Robert

They are changing for a better provider the next week-end. IC is not the only one company affected by this, every companies using the actual provider are.
Well... that's sucks because it is an important week :-/

But I still prefer this broker for many reasons... let see after this week-end.

Ok hope they get a new damn provider, I feel sorry for them. Not their fault but just sucks especially when it happen during London/US session. If it was Sydney or Asia wouldn't care really.

DDoS attack from China?

The provider must learn how to deal with DDoS otherwise it will surely repeat in the future.

If a DDoS is really big there's not much you can do against it. Sure, you can filter internet packets on a very fast firewall to protect more load-sensitive components behind it but even that thing has limits, just as the hosters uplink(s). After all, there is a reason botnet owners can demand a ransom for not targeting your business (economically speaking: they couldn't demand one if you could just buy some Cisco Anti-DDoS box and plug it into your network). In the end, as soon as all your uplinks getting hammered up to their limits it doesn't matter how much hardware you throw behind it.

10-05-2015 – 13:26 – 14:38 = 72 Min
Reason: Core router, hardware failure.
Recovery: Issue isolated to redundant supervisor on core router, router rebooted, failure ensued, faulty redundant supervisor removed, router rebooted.

A DDoS does not kill hardware. I'm not saying they're lying what I'd say they had more issues than a chinese botnet,

Not them directly but probably their hoster (onezero). Just read the comments above and follow the leaprate links.

They emailed all clients this: http://icmarkets.com/newsletter/808/

It's unfortunate these things happen, but as I've said before.. this is not IC Market's fault as it would have happened to anyone using oneZero's services. They have said they will reimburse anyone.

RUBBISH! Maybe you mate, my inbox has no such notification.

I am sorry but I have no sympathy for these guys. Any professional business would have been on to this promptly and notified clients directly and immediately, then taken steps to halt trading until the matter was resolved. If this meant a total stop to trading, so be it, as a result they would have gained respect from their clients, and kept clients and possibly gained a few more due to pure diligence, but what did they choose to do? Wait until clients started contacting support staff, hell there may even be ombudsman cases started now as a result.

Very poorly handled, IMO.

I receive several emails from other brokers notifying in advance about such matters and what they intend to do to combat the problem at hand. This has been ongoing for some time with IC, placing all clients financial well being at high risk, depleting clients confidence and their own reputation.

Good luck, is all I can say.
My comments are not to be taken as trading advice, not a financial advisor

Now the connection to the Live 03 server of IC Markets have been lost over 1 hour. What can we do to prevent this kind of risk or loss as MT4 users or Broker clients? If I slept and didn't find the issue timely, who should be responsible for my loss? How can I get back my loss?
Ignored
one simple answer, close the account immediately! and find a better broker.
if you didn't have a stop loss and then got disconnected, the resposibility lies entirely on you,
it is up to you to protect your investment not the broker. but ofcourse, as a client
you should expect the broker to keep the server online, that is not your job.
trading is hard enough as it is, with trading enviroment like this it would be impossible.
I advise you to change broker asap.
Bulls are stupid Animals!especially when Im short!

I am slightly confused here, I mean don’t brokers have more than one servers even if they go down? It’s disastrous if any broker gets the server down and whatever losses happen, it’s their responsibility to pay. I will accept it if they pay and this does not happen again, but otherwise I will make switch immediately. I never have faced such issue (thankfully) and I am currently using cTrader platform with Octafx, so far it’s pretty good without any difficulty.
