in my opinion in the end its about intuition (art). what I mean intuition its not blind feel. intuition that build and train by all accumulated knowledge which can derive consist of two fundamental knowledge that is ourself knowledge and market knowledge (inner knowledge and outer knowledge). that is why I do not know what i called my self, am I scalper? or am I an intraday trader? sometimes I trade not long than 5 minutes, some times I hold it about 1-2 hour. all its depends on what was happening on that market on that time. sometimes in a day I just going in only one, some times oh my god that day I go like a machine gun
before I come to this state of art now, I try to push my self on some set rigid rules and make me frustrated
. I can not accept a statement "system work on some condition and must accept on other condition on drawdown or red". why? why I not accept such statement. for me that is dangerous and poisonous, because how we know when the system will work on again if the condition is not match or suit to that system means when the condition is over???? as illustration, one year profit by set rules of rigid system, then come year the time the system failed, and must accept that??? oh my god NO WAY. for me I do not care how much profit (pips) I get as long as that is profit. survival and profit. survival and profit. so I better build the system is on my head not outer system.

Probably one of the reasons why it's quiet hard to have a proper discussion about all that stuff.I usually call myself a short term intraday trader, the word scalping is clearly misleading as many people have much different understandings of it. I opted for the 15 min. average length, also yeah it highly depends on the market. There is no sense in letting a trade go back into loss if it was a few pips in profit, so sometimes I have those lovely 15 min. movements, sometimes I trade like a gatling with many trades under 3 minutes. I can remember a day where I had 6 or 7 trades on cable in around one hour - all winners btw.
Do you guys use stop orders? I found them very usable for some sort of reversal trading. If price is moving steep in one direction, regardless of me being in trade or not, I usually move a stop order with it to catch a potential reversal. Works pretty well. I do the same if price is within some sort of range - sooner or later it will break.
In the end its just about extracting some pips with very few drawdown, at least for me. Trading that way allows for safe maximizing my used leverage and thus my return percentage (money efficiency).
