Am at a loss as to who would make a trade like that so far out in time and with that kind of volume, betting on price staying above 185 for the duration of the trade (if a credit spread) or below 182 (if a debit spread) ... . Stupid.

JY promised us a December rate hike, then, apparently, choked on her own words. But she's ok. Did it help to put in a floor for US equities? That's my suspicion, at this point - waiting to see market reactions overnight and in NY Friday. I may be ready to get off the fence and sell some SPY puts, maybe ---- Oct5 SPY puts $187/$184 for $0.72.........?

On board with that; got IC's queued up from here to November monthly at various expirations with short put strikes 188 and below ... . Now that I look at it, that 188 might be a little close for comfort, but only time'll tell ... .

Dancing around below that long-term .382 Fib (from 4/14 low to 2015 high) (194-ish) in early Asian.

markets were hungry for some kind of resolution to the rate hike/no rate hike funk, now they have it with JY's blessing Thursday - it might not be a straight shot but I'd bet we will revisit near SPY $210 again this year, likely within the next 4-5 weeks

new today....for next Friday......SPY $199.5/$200 bull calls for 7c (filled)......SPY Oct/Oct4 diagonal calls, $207/$208....3c

...also filled....these call spreads are looking like long shots now

......idk, bulls get an open gate & still acting timid. I'm not spending much more than a nickel or two on any bull call spread action - also still looking to set up on the other end with put spreads. The Sept FOMC has put everything all cockeyed. I made some money in September but nothing like I thought I would. Books will be looking very lean next week, need to spend some time and see if I can put on something good for October and beyond.

Thought we had a green Friday going with the break of 1937 when I looked at markets this a.m. Nahhh -- ended back where it started.

Somewhat of a schnoozer for me this week; nothing stuck out to me all week long for non-index premium selling plays (I did not want to do earnings), although that OIH iron condor idea I stole from Dough seems to be working out so far ... . I repeatedly looked at index ETF IC setups of increasing duration, frustrated with the width of the strike prices around the 1 SD in the weeklies. Currently, only the Oct and Nov SPY monthlies have strikes prices that are 1 wide around the 1 SD: an Oct 16th expiry 179/182 short put spread goes for .35 at the mid; the Nov 20th 173/176 short put spread will get you .37. The Oct's a little shorter duration than I'd like; the November, quite a bit longer ... . DIA, IWM, and QQQ suffer from the same affliction, so no dice there as an alternative to a SPY setup if I want to stick with three-wide spreads around the SD; I'll have to get (a) more aggressive on the put side; (b) put on additional setups in the monthlies where I've already got setups; or (c) do nothing at all ... . I'm thinking "c" with the index ETF's ... .

Ultimately, I turned to TLT, where I put on a couple of iron condors to fill out a "queue" I've got going there with setups expiring Oct 16th, 23rd, 30th, and Nov 6th. Those will hopefully offset the frustration in putting on index ETF IC's ... .

With 3 more trading days in the month for things to blow up in my face, interested to see how things turn out P&L wise this quarter; that crap we had up until the end of August was a bit hard to squeeze premium out of.

NFLX kitty, the IVR already up there & not coming down w/ just 2+ weeks til ER day. The idea with this trade is to hold it precisely until Oct 12 or 13, a day or so before the ER, and take profit at the peak of the iv run-up. If you watch the vid you see that the peak P/L is in the kitty's forhead before it crashes up into his ears --- the latter would not happen anyway with the ER and iv crash 2 dte. Trade goes on for a small credit, eats margin but not for long. If we can get some more iv in the front options and NFLX flatlines around $100-$105 until 10/13, the maxP on a 10-lot would be $1250 +/-

Avoided Liz and Jenny; there were some Soz and Bat segments instead that fitted the bill ... . Not sure that I'd do anything dramatically different than what I do now, which was largely meant to be an IRA trade test run anyhoo.

the TF name is kitty but DD good too. Here's a SBUX try, you can use the DD to get into a wide strangle for the ER week. Make the short legs expire in the week before the ER, and when that happens, you are left with the wide strangle as shown. Debit for the DD is $0.17.....to buy the wide strangle ($49/$63.5) would cost ya >$0.50

these work better when you can get in very cheap....implying well in advance....but obviously price not sitting still. That Oct5 is Oct FOMC week, not sure I would blow margin on a SBUX gamble then....

just looked in on the Dough traders, haven't looked at the site in a few months - I see lots of variety, Robyn's trades are good to follow & see how she adjusts......Mexican Tony does some interesting trades...I was with him on this PBR stock trade, something to stick in the IRA because it will double in a year or 3....

TWTR has put on some monster ER moves...it has been beat down so much, maybe not too much more to give up?....and not much room for a big spike in this market? idk.....IVR already up, may go up another 15% or so.....does the DD leg-in make sense?....I mean, I'm paying $0.17 for a $19/32 strangle if/after the DD is gone? $13 wide maybe I get in for about the same on the day before the ER? And on the day b4 the ER I can pick my strikes better? it's a gamble either way....
