How to overcome the fear in trading!

I'm reading ''Trading in the zone''!It's really execellent psy book!I have learnt very much from it!

I have the same shoes:
2k account 0.05
1k account 0.025
10k account 0.5
20k account 1 lot

When I have learned to trade somebody it told me to trade 1 lot for every 25k. But he said for scalping and not swing

For swing of course we have fear, because this is to much leverage.

I set the SL and TP -or not at the trade entry, but when I see it is not going in that way as how I wanted, then I close the position with smaller loss or smaller win.
The trend follower moves needed to break new HH or new LL. For those needs pullbacks to Fibo levels. There is a reason to fear with this leverage and 300 pip SL, because it is to much.
Many times my fear prevented me to earn more but I think more times I have earned a small instead my SL being hit. So this a fear is "healthy" and I want to keep it, lol.
A few years ago I couldn't sleep, because I had opened positions, that is a bad fear. The solution is: take a lot lower leverage or exit partially or completely for the night, very probably you will have possibility to reload.

The counter trend is risky:
- maybe moved and only after then I can jump in
- maybe is over and after that I realize.
- but is fast and is fun - not so profitable.

Some currency pairs are good to trade for 10-100 min / trade.
Other are better for +5 days.

I am sure you will find your way to trade.

Right now I am watching the AUD/USD and the NZD/USD for trend following. Actually I have a small shorts.
Maybe is the time to enter with Shorts to continue the trend, maybe it will be a few ranging and the trend will change to UP. If I see sign of that I will close my shorts. Otherwise I would let it run for 1 month.
The EU and GU is better for scalping.

As for me demo is the only platform to test your strategies, check your skills and test any kind of indicators without even losing own money. Using demo with different brokers and reading some reliable forex forums will help you better understand the market and build your own opinion regarding this business on the whole.

Hi, if I could I would add my 2 cents here too. I agree with the trader above that you may feel fear due to not knowing ALL the aspects of your method/system. Eliminate all the uncertainties in your method and you will be much more confident to trade. Is your entry rule is crystal clear to the point where you can answer by simple "yes tradable" or "no I skip it"? Is your exit rule is crystal clear to you? How about trade management and money management rules? The day you fix these issues you will see that there is nothing to fear, really, the only fear that may still be there is the fear you might break any of your rules. But that kind of fear is nothing compared to what bothers you know, train your attention, train your discipline to execute your trades in compliance with your rules. Easy really.

There's actually not a one-step solution for this problem. Removing trading fear is actually a full process. The first step is: Don't risk more than you can afford to lose.

When you say “Maybe I have a good system” there in lies the problem.
Either you have something that works satisfactory for you or you don’t. Whilst you have a maybe you have doubt. and hence fear.
So you might want to work on your system

Man, if you feel that you're falling in "loose streak" - take a break. For a few days-week. It always helps me.

if you scary - you will lose. if you have fear all the time - forex is not yours. Always stay cold, focused on market and calculate every your order. there is no place for emotions

If you go into any trade fearful that it may be a loser, then you WILL lose. You cannot think like that if you want to be successful. You must try to think of the next ten or 20 trades, not the next one. Provided you have a strategy you know delivers you winning trades on a consistent basis, then you have to think of your success over an x number of trades, rather than on the next trade. The fear of loss on any single trade will interfere hugely with your ability to trade successfully, because it will either prevent you from taking trades, or it will force you into errors such as moving your SL to BE too quickly or taking profits too early. Think like a successful trader, and you'll become one. If you don't, work at it, if you can't, then best give up trading before you lose more money.

if you use to large lot sizes trading, then let's face it, when you lose it will hurt. that is probably why you are afraid. my advice is to learn Money management and proper lot sizing, risk to reward, etc. this will give you Peace of mind trading. Always use stoplosses to limit your risk and Always have a minimum 2:1 reward​

Practice is the best thing to overcome fear and it makes you perfect trade by trade.

Demo, Demo Demo!!! You should establish in DEMO at least SIX MONTHS of CONSISTENT profit WITH EXACTLY THE SAME trading conditions as what you will be trading with in live trading BEFORE trading live!!! Set up realistic trading conditions as EXACTLY the same as your future live trading. If you can't be profitable in demo trading, then there is no point going live unless you plan to be an ATM machine for your broker.

1) DON'T demo trade with the capital that your broker gives you. The broker ALWAYS gives you a ridiculously high level of capital that is usually out of 90% of us traders' budget and with a higher capital, it's much easier to be profitable and it will give you a false sense of confidence. No, ask your broker to adjust the starting balance in the demo to be EXACTLY the amount that you will be trading live (i.e. if you are only planning to trade with $2000 to start with, ask the broker to change the starting balance in the demo to just $2000 and NOT one penny more) with and demo on that until you are profitable for SIX MONTHS CONSISTENTLY. Good brokers will be willing to adjust anything in demo for you. If they don't, then you know what to do. If they won't even accommodate you when you haven't even given them the money yet, imagine how they will treat you when you have.

2) Don't trade in hours that you KNOW that you will NOT be trading live. If you do still want to test your system during those hours just to see its profitability, do so but DON'T count them in your demo profit because they won't be there during your living trading so they shouldn't be in your demo trading profit either.

3) Set up the trading system with EXACTLY the same stop loss and take-profit targets in demo as how you would like to in live trading. Don't delay taking profit in demo UNLESS this is EXACTLY what you are planning to do in live as well. All in all, DON'T do anything in demo that you wouldn't do in live trading. Ask yourself always before each action: "Is this something I would do when I trade live? Is this something that I would be willing to do when I trade live"? If not, then they don't belong in demo trading. Demo trading is the LAST and the ONLY chance for you to see whether you will make money and how much before you really risk real money. You should use this opportunity AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE.

Once you see a track record in winning in demo doing EXACTLY THE SAME thing as in live trading, then you know you've got a winning trading system then it's just a matter of implementing it live and you will have NO fear. Think about it, if you are able to have profit, CONSISTENTLY for half of year, WHAT is there to be scared of? The majority of the fear from trading I find is lack of confidence in the trading system and/or trading abilities because you don't know whether you will be able to make money from it or not but if you have proven to yourself in demo that you CAN make money with your trading system with EXACTLY THE SAME CONDITION AS YOUR FUTURE LIVE TRADING (this is VERY important), WHY would you still have fear to pull the trigger?

The difference between demo and real trading is really the execution quality of trades by your broker. If you were able to be consistently profitable for at least SIX months with your exact trading condition and yet as soon as you start live trading you are losing money and you are doing EXACTLY the same thing as in demo, then it's time to change your broker because that's the only element that went into play in live trading.

I am of the opinion that demo trading is okay to learn how to handle the platform and the different orders setting, but useless as regards fear, since there is nothing to lose.
I experience that all the time. At times I see a set up that quite fills all my trading plan requirement, but I hesitate to take it on the funded account, but take it on the demo. Some times I am happy I did, but more often I regret not having traded real.
To me the main issue is to think in probabilities, as many suggest.

Yes but if you have tested THOROUGHLY your trading plan in EXACTLY the same trading condition as in live trading and see that the plan is consistently profitable. Then what are you afraid of? The demo just proved it to you that it's going to make you money on a consistent basis all you have to trade it in real trading EXACTLY as how your trading plan is in demo. What's there to stop you?

Demo is not just there to get familiar with the platform and order types and etc.. You CAN set it up to mimic EXACTLY the same as when you go live to test your strategy. Like I said in my previous post, if your trading strategy is consistently profitable in demo and your live trading is exactly the same as in demo and you are doing EXACTLY the same thing as per the strategy as in demo in real trading and all of sudden you are not profitable anymore then you need to take a second look at the brokers' execution cuz that's the ONLY variable that you can't test in demo, how the broker executes your trades and how fast.

In demo, all trade is executed automatically instantly with no delay but in real life, the execution will depend on the broker. So if everything is working as it should and it's only due to execution that you are not able to profit with your trading strategy then you know what to do. Change the broker! The broker needs to understand that us traders are not their ATM machine. They should only be able to make money when we make money. When we don't even make money, why should they make money?

Well, maybe it is just me, but I can't trade demo and real the same, I can't trade 1 or ten lots the same: the more loaded, the more stressed and...fearful.

It may be tempting to overcome fear, lots of people think you may perform better without fear. But I think fear is a good thing, it keeps you awake and aware of what's happening. Covert fear into useful stuff like alertness.

Well that's WHY you trade demo as if it's live. If you don't trade only 1 lot in real trading (which is perfectly fine), then you trade only 1 lot in demo as well. As stated in my first post on this issue, you ask the broker to scale down your demo account to mimic EXACTLY what your real trading account will be. If your real trading account will be $2K USD, then ask your broker to start your demo trading account at 2K USD as well NOT at ridiculously high balance like $50K so that way you are able to test your trading strategy exactly as if you are trading for real and you can see any draw downs/profits made by your trading system so you can make adjustment accordingly.

Once you see a consistent profit made in demo with the trading capital that you will be actually be trading with, then once you start real trading, if you are doing EXACTLY the same thing as in demo but you are all of sudden not profitable, then that will be broker issue. Like I said, execution quality by the broker is the ONLY thing that you won't be able to test in demo. If you know you are CONSISTENTLY profitable in demo for at least SIX MONTHS and you will be doing exactly the same thing in real trading and you are still scared of trading, then you should consider another career other than trading. Trading is probably not for you.
