same problem here - but things settled down and I was able to open some trades, like this SPY combo for Sep...I also bought more NBG shares at 62c.

Do I detect a "V"?

What a morning. One for the record books. I saw tons of trades I wanted to do - deep dips in the stocks I have been watching - but I could not place a trade to save my life. I know futures were shut down but not sure about stock exchanges - I saw trades going across. Another deep dip entry point for the traders with access, just a show for the little guy. I should have been able to close out Oct VXX $17/$18 bull calls for big profit, as VXX went up to $26 - no dice.

I did fill a buyout order for the last of my Oct SPY $214/$217 call verts - out for 5c, a 75c net.

Anyway, I put on a lot of SPY trades, too many to list, but did do Sept $181/$180 puts diagonal to help protect my $191/$188 Sept bull puts verts. Diagonals got on for 8c, m/l cancel out the loss the verts would see if SPY dips below $191 at expiry - the deeper the dip, the better. Will show charts later.

current APPLE position is worth a combined $19 (1900$) per contract combi, looking to close a a few to bank some profits and the remaining lot I'm holding out till after the next earnings, between 85-90$ is my preferred out or better depends on results

they tried to put the V in and ran back to 1950, but not to be, we have to run the Chinese gauntlet once again. Ripped me off on VXX bull vert...maybe I'll get a better entry Tuesday anyway....

if the Chinese can shore up the SHCOMP tonight, we will see Europe and the US stabilize and bounce on Tuesday....I will not be surprised to see a V for the week.....

Got some housecleaning to do ... .

The indices are gyrating all over the place, so I imagine it may be difficult to get fills ... . That being said, I'm badly need of short deltas, given the fact that almost all of the short call sides of my index IC's have been taken out at or near .05 db, leaving me with a bunch of ragged short put ITM verticals. Some of these were in breach, then out of breach, then in breach during today's session ... . Yeesh. That being said, if you asked me if this is my fave palce to put on short deltas in the index ETF's, my answer would be "no." A bounce (that lasts) would be welcome ... .

Boy, did I not anticipate the flight to the Euro. I think it's a transient thing, but it's something that could last a week or more until things shake out. I'm fine with that, since I anticipated that the FXE play would be a fairly long term thing; just didn't expect this much bull in the Euro ... . The expiries in FXE still blow, but there's no way around it ... . It's difficult to set up what I wanted there -- something like laddered short call verticals from here to December ... . I'll be glad to see the back of that set-up, but it's going to take a bit of time to sort itself out ... .

The good news is that my TLT IC's are making up for some of the gyrations in my index ETF trades. By comparison, TLT is a fairly calm affair, although that could quickly change if there is further downside in the indices or we get one of those gnarly, face-ripping SPY V-bottoms ... .

I'm looking for a similar/inverse set-up in SVXY; short put vert with the short put strike at 48 or below ... . I actually would have had the chance to put this on today; price dipped all the way down to 46-ish today ... . Unfortunately, the day job gets in the way of opportunities ... .

Tuesday may offer another shot, but it would naturally require additional bloodshed in the indices ... .

Otherwise, I'm back to waiting for SVXY 95 for another short opportunity ... .

New SPY spreads, sets up for an interesting Sept expiry. Profit zone from $170 to $211, subject to iv erosion if SPY rallies. /ES up 38+ in early Asia --- ya can't keep a good bull market down for long......I paid too much for that $185 puts calendar, that's what happens when you stay up all night to watch the markets crash...

Disorderly implosion/explosion ... . That's why I'm resorting to TLT for a bit for some small stuff while I wait for the indices to settle; it's a little more orderly. People aren't exactly piling into the thing, but it's not whipsawing all over the place.

right, so you trade VIX derivatives either speculatively or for insurance, or both, but when the VIX spikes off of an SnP crash, you can't get a fill....because of "quoting problems" ...???..... this bs cost me about $500 today

Here's a thinker for you ... . SVXY 98/101 short call vert, Sep 4 expiry. At close, market says the spread is worth ".00" (short call value = long call value). My order is to close for .05; you would think I'd get a fill to close ... .

without looking at that I can tell you I have given up on most anything except VXX - occasionally I will gamble on UVXY - but the wide spreads and illiquidity of UVXY & SVXY suck...
