We need a Nikkei thread here. Nikkei ran from 13000 to over 20000 so if markets tank this will be one of the indexes that gets hammered pretty hard. Was down quite a bit today and we broke the 20,000 barrier

The Nikkei 225 is my favourite instrument, especially the E-Mini (N225M). Low commission, almost zero slippage, and good volatility make this a great index to trade.

That recent drop of almost 2000 points was mostly due to Greece I think, and it's now regained most all of it. You would have made a killing if you'd bought at the bottom, but who the hell's brave or stupid enough to go long after a 2000 point sudden drop? (answer: the smart money ).

As for me, I'm wondering what's going to happen to the Nikkei if/when the US markets start to wobble due to interest rate hikes. Usually they're correlated pretty well... but not always. Will investors start shifting some from US stocks to Japanese ones? Or will the Nikkei wobble too? A couple of summers ago I was caught on the wrong side of a deep unexpected correction on the Nikkei. It's already had one this summer thanks to Greece, but it will be interesting to see where it goes from here in the relatively-illiquid holiday period. Be careful and trade safe everyone

Hey Bernhard, I use Interactive Brokers. They aren't perfect but all in all a good broker I think. One advantage is that you can trade just about anything in the world with them.

Commission for N225M is 80 yen per contract round-turn, and my stop orders generally get filled at the same price (no slippage). The only time you can't calculate your risk is when the market reopens after one of its twice-daily closes. If your stop is tight then it can gap beyond your stop and take you out for an increased loss, so be careful about that. Of course this applies to all markets at weekends, but on the Nikkei Mini it might happen twice a day.

Looking very closely at the N225.

A lot of foreign funds have been riding the QQE fueled uptrend and I suspect they won't hesitate to get out en masse if there's a risk off event, like we saw the other day.

I also wonder what Abe's waning popularity might spell for the index as we move towards the next election (which I think is 2 years away?). Could get ugly.

So you see the Nikkei going up 10,000 to 27,740? If I remember correctly their contracts for trading indices expire every 2 months.

Hey Rtm,

Did you hold on to your long during the NFP spike? I completely messed up and lost about 2%. It didn't start rising properly until after I'd gone to bed! Not a great start to the weekend but you live and learn.

I'd be interested to hear if you're still bullish on the Nikkei and, if so, why? It still looks bullish to me both fundamentally and technically (price and volume), but I'm concerned about USD.JPY and ES, which both look bearish despite the strong finsh yesterday. Could the Nikkei be starting to uncorrelate from US equities? Seems hard to imagine but you never know.

Heck no, I didn't hold, I mean my position went straight into profit as soon as I put it on so I was good. Sorry to hear NFP cocked it up pretty good though.. I agree Nikkei both fundamentally and technically is an overall bullish sentiment to me for next couple months. I think DJ and Nikkei will negatively correlate and that is what I am betting on, but its a secret so don't tell anyone. Just opinions though trade your own plan! Cheers

I am also quite bullish on Nikkei and Japan. Prior to the Olympics most countries do well. Shi* hits the fan after though. Did hit the fan for China and Russia lol..

THE TRUTH is, stock index like Nikkei DAX, are a safe haven for investors in that no other investments can offer such great of return and be back by the banks! SUPER low interest rates. You know what they say, follow the smart money. Until something better comes along or the world blows up SP500 will keep going up.

What happened to this thread, little daily activity lately,..

i agree with stylinex that the Nikkei already standard quiet volatile will be one of the indices really tanking Hard,

therefor I will keep my eye on the index and follow relevant levels daily, and keeping my eye on threads discussing Nikkei regularly.

Personally i'm curious whether nikkei will make a higher high soon ( looks like it ), or reject still and start a further down move which might be lengthy,..
We'll see soon i guess
