I always use a stop loss. It is essential if you ask me. We all know the risks of trading so if you open a position with no stop loss it is like tacking a risk with no contingency plan. You always need to use protections. How much stop loss you place depends on how risky you want to be. I am willing to risk only a percentage of my equity so I normally place it at the 2% level.

Totally agree with you Davie, any experience with higher percentage? Usually with such low percentage you should entry the market at the right moment right ?

I'm using stoploss now, it's useful when lack of experience or you are a risk averter. You may suffer huge lost when market change suddendly without stoploss.

Not really a direct response to the OP, but it is a question about stop-losses.

How does one mitigate when you get stopped out due to news then price continues in the direction you traded?

Took a trade on E/J this morning, got stopped out due to spread change around news time, now price is falling like a rock towards my initial target...Do you find another time to get back in? What if no other opportunity presents itself?

Never use a stoploss, but instead my program tries to counter the loss with a new position, iterating so until you are profitable.
Cheers

Yes, always. If I'm wrong to begin with, I might as well get stopped out.

1. Always. I used to never use it but I learn from my mistakes.
2. Long term I have much smaller losses with using S/L than without using one.
3. Depends what time frame I'm trading. In 1H-5M somewhere inbetween 40 and 10.

ALWAYS use a Stop Loss.

Even if you decide to hedge you should use a stop.

I always use stiop loss and I've never tried to trade without it. I actually don't understand how can you trade without this order even if you use a low leverage.

It depends.

In 1 strategy I trade breakouts and using a stop loss is mandatory to the strategy as everything else would be against the system rules.

In trend trading I follow an always in the market approach. Closing the positions out on predefined conditions. I don't know exactly when this will happen so no sl is set in stone at the beginning of the trade but it's kind of dynamic sl.

Dear traders, I want to ask you questions about trading: 1. Do you use stoploss or not? 2. Why do you use stoploss and why you don't? 3. How many pips do you use your stoploss? thanks anyway
Ignored
1. Do you use stoploss or not?
No

2. Why do you use stoploss and why you don't?
I hate being stopped because of ranges, so i let my orders go with what i think, even if they come back for a little time

3. How many pips do you use your stoploss?
no SL, brokers hunt you :/
Perfecting your entry will increase your profits

1. Yes I use stop losses always.
2. Because the price can move too fast in forex and without a stop loss you can take a much larger loss than expected even before considering slippage.
3. I use 15 pip stop loss.

Unless you are sitting at your desk watching the screen, I can't see how you could not use a stop loss. My positions can last several days, so I can't watch it the whole time, especially when at work or sleeping.

After CHF, always use SL 50, depending on pair/volatality.
