Just entered a sell on wheat and corn futures. Expecting a big drop (I expected bigger spikes in corn, but they did not occur so far so I have tight sl).

Hey mate, can you shed some light on why the japanese yen is now regarded as safe haven currency. 2 to 3 months ago it was only the us dollar that was regarded as safe haven. Now usd is being bought, jpy is being bouht as safe haven. Your expert analyses as usual will be appreciated

Essentially, Japanese YEN is a safe haven because it has the poorest western economy whilst being a country that actually produces goods and services. Compare them with Greece, where output won't make up for its structural problems.

this means you can have confidence in carrying Yen as a swap for say USD knowing that you will get paid reasonable interest on your opposing currency compared to near zero rates in Japan.

Japan on the other hand has had 2 decades of recession and its prime minister is now aggressive in devaluing Yen. Carry interest was the usual play for investors who wanted to park risk, but recent political moves has started seeing money flow out of Yen back into other safe havens like Dollar.

2nd EUR short stopped out for +30, one still open but I'll continue to add until target reached.

YEN is a "safe haven" because the Japanese have a high savings rate and high foreign investment rate utilizing low interest rates. At times of uncertainty, YEN are repatriated to the home country, thereby strengthening in value.
I.e. yen are borrowed at low rates and invested abroad seeking higher yields. When uncertainty hits, they sell the high yield investments, and buy back yen to pay what has been borrowed. The buying of yen lifts the yen in value.

By far a better explanation than my amateur attempt.... I couldn't remember the term "yields"! Lol

well....looks like I need to start trading Asia session again. Back to sleeping early afternoon and up for Tokyo open starting tomorrow. FYI many pairs have already hit 10 D ATR highs low prior to Europe opening.
