I will number the minor versions in future and post the latest version number details here. EDIT: the current version is 1.2 just a different number but the same program as when this post was originally made.

Thank you Sir!! I just manually adjusted to fixed lots and left the risk factor at 2%.

This thread is one of the best in ff. You are right, useless people is around often.
I agree with you, dont waste your time with heaters.

It's nice to hear from the many listeners. At times I get frustrated and at this stage I make no secret that I am seeking to monetise my efforts but I will never forget my loyal posters. I would never have achieved this level if it wasn't for better people. The EA and Strategy Optimizer in it's current form (with bugs eliminated) will remain!

Hey Dave I've been getting the error below when testing RSI and MACD on USDJPY. Doesn't seem to happen on other pairs. Also just want to add that I re-downloaded the data and the optimizer on the first page just to make sure I wasn't outdated on anything.

Hi Dave, Been following the thread for a while now and downloaded the EA and the SO. Guess I've been one of the silent followers!! Anyway a minor thing I've noticed is that the Take Profit value will quite often exceed the "from" "to" limit value i.e. the optimised value will be 162 when the limit range is 5 to 100. I have just tested a default optimisation (using the RSI strategy) of the latest AU 2015 data using the latest (1.2) version of the SO which resulted in the TP of 162 when upper limit was set to 100.

The TakeProfit cap will be exceeded when the Take Profit Multiple which is tied to Stop Loss dictates a higher level.
For example - SL 100 TakeProfitMultiple 2.5 = TakeProfit 250.

Shawn, that is a massive optimization. I have just followed your diagram and to put it simply, you just have too many optimizations ticked. At this point I am up to 12% with no problems. Could you please make sure your version is 1.2 by clicking on the about button. I suspect one of my variables has gone beyond it's scope because of the number of iterations. By my calculations, you have 14 boxes ticked which would amount to iterations in the trillions. At that stage, I would have to do what MT4 does and start to eliminate some calculations. A much more preferable route is to review your optimization needs as per Post #1150

Hello Dave, nice thread you hve here. I started testing you EA, MACD+CDL 2 days ago. I selected the optimization from the files you provided on the first post. I trade the majors. I noticed that the EA doen't open the same trades your 7 Majors - MACD CDL Filter opens. Do you have an explanation for this? For example, your EA opened a GBPUSD SELL position 3 hours ago and my EA opened an USD/CAD BUY position 6 hours ago. Do you need more details about this?

The Trade Explorer EA is using a much older set file (not from the samples at Post 1) which would need conversion to work with the latest version of the EA.

In order to use it you would need to reset the inputs (bottom right button on the input screen) and manually enter the relevant settings. Probably easier to take some screen shots of the inputs before you press Reset.

Quick question... sorry cause I fear it is a dumb one...

If I test the 28 strategies above would I need the appropriate indicator as well? Or is MT4 smart enough to gather that off chart w/o the indicator?

Thanks in advance for any help.

New version of Strategy Optimizer 1.3.

The Save and Open Optimization file options have been eliminated and integrated into the Save and Open Set file functions.
The optimum settings can be reloaded in an instant if the associated optimize boxes are un-ticked (similar to MT4).

I've been away for the last week and just saw your response to my post. I very much appreciate your detailed overview of your challenges and where you're at with your project. Like so many forex traders, I gained much of my education in this field from reading the various threads here at FF. This would not have been possible if it weren't for generous participants such as yourself. So I salute you for simply stepping forward and sharing. But you've also clearly created something of lasting value - two things, actually - and I can't imagine this thread drifting off into the ether as so many have. So long as you choose to continue to running it, that is.
