I don't say vsa don't work. I traded vsa for long time. In range markets it worked awesome, but when started trend or bigger move, then started bigger looses. And don't say what i can and what i can't and what to use to me.. This is more than stupid from your side. And about indicators, i didn't used more than volume. So go away ant use what you want.

My opinion is that is hard use vsa with spot tick volume. A didn't saw real professional or long term profitable trader that uses vsa )) Only here "gurus" drawing "profitable" trades on history..

Yes it's been a long and profitable drop. We have well surpassed all of the levels noted in that old post and each time new targets came into play.

Thanks HG, I understand what you are saying but it seems like the logic is flawed to me. I'm not saying it is flawed, just it seems it to me at the moment.

In order for price to move any distance up, there has been a greater amount of buying than selling. Price doesn't magically move up, so price moving up means there has either been high levels buying, or low levels of selling - right? If volume is low, then there has not been significant buying, so the selling must have been insignificant.

I suppose this does indicate that there has not been significant interest from smart money, or volume would have been higher. That kinda makes sense.

So, medium spread up on low volume = weakness because low vol signifies buying from herd, not the smart money, but it makes a reasonable spread because smart money isn't interested in selling just yet either.

Could wide spread up on medium volume = strength due to EvR?

Perhaps that's the correct assumption to make... It just seems strange that in one example lower volume than spread is weakness but with slightly higher volume is strength.

So to sum up: Would you say that:

Low volume, medium spread up = weakness
Medium volume, wide spread up = very strong

you mentioned to find broker with good liquidity. Now i'm trading in tickmill. They call them as liquidity providers. Maybe somebody use them and can say what thing about volume on tickmill ?

Price does not move up because there are more buyers than sellers. By definition, for every buyer there has to be a seller. But what moves price up is when buyers are more AGGRESSIVE than sellers. Conversely, price moves down when sellers are more AGGRESSIVE than buyers.

It's late, so I do not want to get into a lengthy discussion of why and how markets move. But I will say this:

A price move is caused by traders losing money.

Some said that price move to fill unfilled orders and that happened when some traders decide to financially support market makers in order to facilitate trading.

Hello Friends. It is my hope all readers are well, in good health, and prospering.

This is an interesting conversation, and rather than chiming in with my uninformed opinion it seems prudent to me to remind the reader of the threads context. It matters not a bit why VSA works. One could recite whatever reasons they believe about VSA and that would not make them any money. The goals of VSA, wide range bar, market profile, auction market theory, and so forth methods of analyses are to find reasons to enter and exit speculative betting trade positions in order to take money from foolish trading entities. The primary dealers who comprise the interbank network are very good at this.

Here was a money making VSA setup from the late Tokyo session into the London open of Friday 4/12/2015 in Cable.

From left to right.

Reversal bars after failed test due to high tick activity at lower rate

No Demand or low demand bar with very low tick activity

Lower highs and reversal bars with successively higher tick activity

Resulting in a come off sell down over the next five hours into New York open of about 45 pips.

The second pic shows the context of the background. Cable is in a down trend so only short trades are prudent for small speculators.

(Please do not interpret my post as an attempt to wax pedagogical. I welcome all constructive criticism because my goal in FX trading is to make money.)

Ok so:

Price moving up on low volume means no buying interest from institutions, but the price action also means little interest in selling from institutions.

So is VSA saying that a price move up on low volume is the institutions allowing the market to move up either to trap or to test?

The majority of the low volume in this scenario you're implying is from retail traders exiting shorts?

(But medium volume and a big price move up should still imply high strength due to effort vs results)

After an effort to rise followed by a couple of no supply bars, Fiber came off a bit. If it ain't going up it must be going down.

Here's Looney 5M showing a minor bottom reversal. The high transaction activity bar at 1900 was almost all buy volume. Following was a basic test with high volume. Rate immediately retested with lower transactions and volume. Off she went for a 10 pip gain.

Here's a 30M of WTI oil. The daily pivot will likely hold any sell down due to the high tick activity shake out bar at 2100 on 4/10/15.

Edit: 20:31 gmt-6 2nd pic > Shaded area shows a formation that I think may qualify as a Wyckoff Springboard.
