A few days ago a girl bashed me for the time I'm wasting on trading. She said it's not a real job and I'm just a dreamer. She's a salesgirl in a mall and claims to be more important than me since I do my main job also sitting in front of a computer. I should get a real job and work my ass like she does. I didn't tell her how much I earn though.

I kept being calm and grinned because she's quite the opposite of me. I'm fit and workout and usually very calm. She's chubby and always angry. But it made me think how average people sees trading nowadays. Why that bad reputation? Why is trading not considered a job?
I think some people still think the world works as it used to, get a job and everyone works a job. People fail to realise that actually you can do your own thing and make a load of money. Probably just her being jealous

Traders have a bad reputation, thanks to the Wall Street and City boys and all the movies as well as the news items putting a, lets say not great light on them (us).

Also, lots of people consider a job when you get a fix income (salary) and since they can't do what most of the entrepreneurs do (because they don't have the balls), then we become BUMS (NOT working our asses like they do).

Just show her how much you made in return in the last 51 days and walk away

She will be even more pissed off with you

Hi guys, in my Point of view, trading is not exactly a Job. it's more like a Business activity.
What defines a job though? A job is something you get paid to do? Or is it something that puts money in the bank?

You aren't technically getting paid to trade, but you make money from your trading (if that makes sense)...

Really up to each person on how they want to define it.
If you are very rich the best response to her is buying the place she works at then firing her xD

But trading isn't a tangible occupation. If everyone decided to quit their day jobs and become traders this would be a major problemo.
Nations and economy's would be collaps. Nothing would get done. We'd all starve to death - but not before embracing cannibalism.

Regarding the contribution to the society : Yes , traders do . There are many ways including paying taxes to the government who uses this money to make the country going on & develop it "in theory lol" . Also some traders pay some % of their profit to charity . Regarding everyone becoming trader and quit their job that's completely impossible . Will everyone be a doctor or a lawyer or engineer or pilot ? not indeed . We will have more doctors & lawyers & engineers & pilots everyday and we will have more traders everyday but it's impossible that everyone will do the same job
Trading is considered by many as a business and should be treated as such, and as a job by others. However, the thing that you don't need to travel to an office and spend there most part of the day it doesn't mean you are not productive.

The reason is not consider a job or good or proud business is that trading is seen as a "zero sum game" (BULLS vs BEAR fighting) were your neighbor's loss becomes your gain. Recently I was reading a book by Mark Douglas "Trading in the Zone" were I got to see the revelation of trading. I never knew someone has to lose for me to gain. It is practically like casino if am not mistaken. I'v not been profitable since I started trading owing to undercapitalization and psychological issues. This book really helped me. Hoping to go into it soon with the right state of mind and capital. Strategy has never been my problem as you don't even need 85% win rate to be profitable.

My first reason for becoming a trader was to raise a reasonable capital from a $1000 account in a year or two and then walk away to start an offline business like agro sales, farming or building material sales which requires about 10-20k to start here. These are seen as noble businesses here. Trading is practically seen by many as a worthless profession that gives the world nothing in return. I do not blame the market for my loses but myself for not knowing the secret truth about trading. For this reason, I no longer tell people I involve in online forex trading due to their perception towards trading most see it as gambling instead of business.

FARMERS provide food for the world, engineers have their roles, teachers provide services e.t.c but people then asked me ------ what do forex traders gives to the world other than flipping currencies. They said 95% losers are simply feeding 5% winners. Much like legalized stealing from each other. I was shocked when these guys kept telling me this at my face. Don't talk about charity because they told me the "end doesn't justify the means"

I'm not rich, not yet. My family was basically on the edge of poverty. I don't even have a degree because I couldn't afford it. Heck I bought my last pair of shoes three years ago! When I finished schools there were no decent jobs for me anywhere to find. I worked in the countryside for my family for quite some time and I learnt what a hard day of working really meant. I had a choice. I could either decide to follow the footsteps of my father and do the laborer just like him or to invent myself.

In '99 internet was booming I was fascinated when I first discovered it. I bought myself my first 33.6k modem and started building websites just for fun and it became a job for me. Thanks to internet I learnt on how to become a coder and a graphic designer. During my workout sessions a friend of mine told me about Forex and he invested about 2k euros to attend class to an Italian motivator coach. I just bought his books for 10 euros. So I started trading about 5 years ago just to give it a try, but I understood the potential and saw analogies with my workout program where patience and consistency will bring remarkable results. I still have a long way to become a rich guy, but I'm grateful to be able to avoid doing tiresome daily jobs and still bring some money home.

What I don't get is why people nowadays still think that sitting in front of a Computer is just kids play. It's beyond me.

Prime example of why so few people out there are entrepreneurs, compared to those that are. Most people just don't think outside of the box. Not really their fault though. Most of us are taught from childhood to believe that getting good grades in school, going to college and landing a job with some company is the only way to go

I know this feeling, especially from family and close friends. Its always like "go get a real job".

I mean trading from home and from a trading floor in a bank is the same...you are all your time in front of the computer. Difference is you work for yourself anywhere you feel like.

But people must think "having a job" is working for someone surronded by stupid coworkers, and get exploited all your life. Poor fellas

Not everytime your losses are taken by someone. sometime its the bank who take the other side of your trades. on other hand its not just sole traders here we have huge number of Oil & Business tycoons involving their money in forex Market so taking money from them is not that bad. This Banking system and current trading system is all for stealing money so dont feel guilty about that. Pardon for my english

In the past, as a child, then as teenager I thought that the only important job is job that produces something. That person who sits behind desk is just a parasite and working class is keeping them unproductive parasites for some weird reason and then I grew up

I have a similar experience from pretty much everyone .I know it pays in forex and I will be making this my fulltime job in the next few months once I get my money back from Alpari.Its quite simple to make money in Forex if you focus and stay patient .I make 5% every week as my target and I have done it for 11 weeks in a row so I am pretty confident I can make it .
Its been tough for me though ( check all my posts on heer since 2009 and you will see what i mean)

Yeah most people think that the only way of living is getting hired, paying bills and just work for your boss like a slave. I know what means doing physical work all day and getting home so tired the only thing you want to do is just resting. You don't even have the energy to think. That's what most people experience. Once their work day is over they get on the couch and watch TV until they fall asleep.

There is no way I'm throwing away my life like that. I want to travel the world and be free from any economic restrain.
