I am not totally convinced that this a correct move. I have always had the thought that each currency pair had a technical deviation intraday of a defined number of pips away from external fundamental influences. For me it was about 45 pips for the AUD, 60 pips for the EURO and so on. The point I have been trying to get you to understand, is that you need to back test and optimize.

To put this into perspective, money management is an adjunct, not the be all and end all.

Hi Dave

Just noticed for some reason these 3 trades have no SL or TP set they are live trades not pending I have looked through the jounal but cant see any errors

I looked for a normal order being activated and there are these 3 entries

2015.03.06 06:00:59.696 '4488197': order #83340680 sell 0.08 GBPUSD at 1.52426 was modified -> sl: 1.52986 tp: 1.51456

but for the trades highlighted there is only 1 entry per trade

2015.03.06 01:22:26.394 '4488197': order #83316967 sell stop 0.12 USDJPY at 119.982 activated at price 119.982
2015.03.05 16:45:02.728 '4488197': order was opened : #83321857 sell 0.07 USDJPY at 120.179 sl: 0.000 tp: 0.000
2015.03.05 18:00:02.535 '4488197': order was opened : #83325831 sell 0.07 USDJPY at 120.127 sl: 0.000 tp: 0.000

I checked back the trade history and found these, as you can see its always the USDJPY and has only started happening since 03/03/2015 which is when i think i installed the new TradersGift EA with the stoploss %

Could you give this a try for me and report back. It should fix the problem. I'll incorporate the fix in the next build if all is OK.

Just tested it on the constant straddle and it placed an order and updated the SL and TP so the fix seems to have worked thanks.
Just out of curiosity why was it only happening to the usdjpy pair.

It wasn't actually JPY only. The stop loss decrease % was taking the SL to below a minimum value probably only with that pair because of the settings.

As a result of the fix, you should have another look at optimization of the concept of reducing stop loss as the trade gets further into profit. I would suggest optimizing StopLossPercent using a range of 1% to 10% step 1%.

I have created an updated EA which includes the following additional inputs for testing.

Wager based on Balance in addition to Equity and StopLoss
Triple MACD with nominated time frames
Triple STOC with nominated time frames
Bollinger Bands
Volume Filter
and fix for StopLossPercentage (please refer to post above)

The weekend period should allow for some testing. Some of the inputs have moved position so please take care with any existing .set files.
(you will need to press Reset so take a copy of your existing inputs).

Please post if you find any problems.

Please can you add the Top level and Bottom level for the stochastics as well so we can set highs and lows trigger for the different time frames like the rsi's...

eg
Stoch 1 top level 80
Stoch 1 bottom level 20
stoch 2 top level 85
stoch 2 bottom level 15
stoch 3 top level 75
stoch 3 bottom level 25

And Bollinger Bands for deviation make it a double, instead of int, so traders can select 2.5 deviation or 2.7 for finer entries ...
and bollinger bands time frame for signal

Question, Have you set Stochastics and the bands to sell high and buy low, because when i setup just bands and stochastics to test, im not getting any trades when backtesting

If you can put option to reverse signal, so we can tell it to reverse trade the signal, will sort it out... some traders will want to trade the price action, while some the reversal....

The main trend is down, so we want to sell eg, aud/usd we looking for swing high, to sell only... we looking for overbought 30minute time frame stoch, and 30m time frame bands, and 4 hour time frame overbought, for a sell on stoch... then we go down to the 5 minute for better entry...

We use ema on daily for direction, 20 fast, 40 slow, tells us we in sell.. we dont want buy trades.... once all this is together, i will share set files here

Hi Dave been running some back test and thought i would try the "Open Prices" Model to speed up the testing this gave a whopping £10,151.39 profit, a bit unbelievable in only a 2 month period with a £5000 account, so I then rerun the test using the every tick model and this time the profit was only £1112.80 and the drawdown was a lot bigger at 18%.

Unless I am doing something wrong there doesn't seem any point using the quicker "Open Prices" model as the results are miles apart.

What testing procedure do you follow

nobby911, what strategy were you using? Some strategies will give such different results. Also, be sure you have the "Time frame" setting in the EA (toward the end) set correctly. I have used both methods to test and get very similar results for each method.

yes its the constant straddle on the jpy i have the Time Frame set to 1 for 1 min TF surely there shouldnt be this much difference when running identical settings for both models

The Continuous Straddle is not based on technical indicators (which work on previous candles) and it is very susceptible to price movements intra candle particularly during news releases. Forward testing with this strategy is not encouraging running it continuously and I would suggest removing it around news releases but reinstating it after the initial whipsawing. My own back testing on actual tick data suggests results consistent with Nobby's results. Previously I had incorporated this strategy in the Trading Concept but in my latest tests I have removed the strategy for the above reason and the results are more encouraging.

In a previous post, I expressed my own ideas about the straddle trade and in my own trading style, I am more inclined to place the straddle after the news event and the initial confusion.

There will be no further changes made to STOC, the levels will remain fixed at 80 and 20
The deviation can go to double
Relating to the no trades scenario, you need to alter the MaxBarsAgo setting out to at least 5.
Reversal trades are allowed, I suggest you read the help file.

On second thoughts - Support for Post #768 is withdrawn and the EA will remain in it's current format at Post #1.

Not at all, when I said altogether I meant after ive backtested and can show you all...

Sad you misunderstood my effort... I already have a system thats doing very well and can show my results but dont know how to put the stats on this page... I already got what i am sharing and this is not for my benefit but to add to what you have and put in my input and effort like we discussed.

here is the AUD pair i wanted to add to the system... Previous was NZD...

Im sorry I cant be of any benefit to this forum. My idea was while we were running the Price action, we could be set up to catch the reversals too, and thats was my department ...

I can go back 4 months and and my results are good from strength to strength.. on all my pairs my setup is good...

When I stumbled on this and saw what it can do, and if incorporated with my input, this EA could be so diverse the Holy Grail would join the forum and start asking questions...

I didnt need to do this as Yes I already got my own good system and I could just code Traders gift into what I already got , or just run Traders gift side by side next to mine and we all good...

May the pips be with you all... once again im sorry to leave... as my input has been withdrawn by Dave. I respect your decision is final and thank you for giving me the opportunity to at least try help...

Im not tweaking anything as I already have the settings... All i asked was Dave to make a few small changes to it can adapt. And It wont work without what I asked for because I need look at 4 different time frames with different levels, and settings of highs and lows for it to work like mine.

Somewhere I read we must become team members and players and input... Thats what I tried...

Dave, GOOD! If you cannot find a winning combination with the options available, you are not going to find one at all. One cannot keep "tweaking" these indicators to get a winning strategy. All you are doing in back testing these "tweaked" parameters is to get a better curve fit for a given time period. The market does not follow any of these indicators, the indicators follow the market. Look for a strategy that gives fairly consistent results for different time periods (same time frame). It does not have to give great profits for any time period, but should not show a large profit for one 3-4 month period, than a large loss the next period. A strategy that provides a positive result over multiple 3-4 month periods is a strategy that will survive in the long term.

I have been having very good success with RSI set to close on reversal, and using "set stop loss to break even". Do an optimization for the RSI settings and Break even setting for the time frame of your choice ( M15 - H4). Optimize for the past 3 month period. I keep the Stop Loss, and Take Profit Multipliers at 1.0 for the first optimization. Now pick optimized settings that not only give a nice profit, but that make sense. Sometimes there is a setting that gives a very high profit, but the settings just don't seem to make any sense, I find that in these cases the results will be very different for a different time period. Next check the results using your selected settings for a different 3 month time period. It may not give as good of a result as the previous test, but it should not be a big loser. Repeat for another time period (within the past year). If all three tests are positive, you have a strategy that just might do well for the next few months at least. I next forward test with a live account using small lots. So far this technique has proven to be consistently profitable, I will optimize my settings again at the end of March and continue testing.

Would like to hear from others that have found strategies that show promise.

Ok this is what I have done.

There is no more Triple anything! RSI MACD or STOC
There are no more additional MACD crosses - just main/signal

Bollinger Bands and Volume filters have been added.

All indicators have a nominated timeframe which defaults to 0 - the current timeframe.
Some inputs have been shifted. Some variables have been renamed for added meaning.

Those of you who want to play with triples have Post #768 but I will not be supporting it.
