  1. if rates go negative, the U.S. Treasury Department’s Bureau of Engraving and Printing will likely be called upon to print a lot more currency as individuals and small businesses substitute cash for at least some of their bank balances.
  2. As interest rates go more negative, market participants will have increasing incentives to make payments quickly and to receive payments in forms that can be collected slowly
  3. if interest rates go negative, the incentives reverse: people receiving payments will prefer checks (which can be held back from collection) to electronic transfers
  4. we may see an epochal outburst of socially unproductive—even if individually beneficial—financial innovation

Dollar Is Wandering Off Track

If you were to look at a coincident chart of the Fed Funds rate versus the Dollar Index, it would be tough to prove that there is any real-time correlation at all. But people still think that such a correlation exists, and so they imprint their beliefs about what interest rates are going to do onto their expectation of what the currency will do. The expectation that the Fed will raise rates ahead of the European Central Bank (ECB) has pulled a lot more wealth into the dollar, boosting its value versus the euro.

But the belief that a relationship exists between interest rates and currencies is not completely wrong. The key to unlocking that relationship lies in seeing the lag time involved. This week’s chart helps to explain that relationship better. The plot of the effective Fed Funds rate is shifted forward by 3 years to reveal that the Dollar Index tends to follow in the same footsteps 3 years later. So yes, interest rates matter, but not for 3 years.

Hm well if whole world goes negative on rates deeply, then that might be possible scenario for US to follow. Otherwise its not possible as capital flows into USD have to be protected as part of its financial system and reserve status. But there is still a lot room that needs to be done in order for that to happen (AUD,NZD,NOK,RUB,HUK,...), with other words nothing like that can happen in next two years i would say so not thing to worry about trading wise. Rates 0 or rates up therefore much more likely.

Look at the average trade duration. pre-NFP it is 2 weeks on the short-side, post-NFP suddenly 3 weeks


Explanation:

there were some accounts with short EURUSD positions switched off pre-NFP, because they were heavily in draw-down

After NFP they were switched on to show great trading results
