Just one of those out there questions that surfaced when I was looking at NG.
In FF under NG Specs, and then into FF Notes it states:

"While this is a US indicator, it most affects the loonie due to Canada's sizable energy sector"

What is the "loonie" ??

Appreciated,

It's called the Loonie because of the Great Northern Loon (a bird) or something like that. It use to be (and maybe still is) on their coins.
Some people think it's because the currency moves around like a lunatic. That's is also true.

Maybe the "Loonie" is slang for what would have been an old French currency; as in the Louy - AKA the Louis D'or ?

This is why, and the only reason, we call our dollar a loonie.

The Canadian two dollar coin is called the Toonie.
It's got a polar bear and, of course, the Queen.

As has been pointed out, an engraving of a loon is on a Canadian coin. More specifically, it is on the $1 coin. In Canada, if you lend someone a loonie you are lending them a Canadian $1 coin, not any Canadian coin.
