feeling realy excited right now, did some reading of a couple of threads and realised that they lost money because of lack of discipline and a lack of a proven EDGE.... now im realy confident that my goal is not only possible but i will achieve it, at 1st i was gona buy something like a lamborghini or a Ferrari wth my 1st million but right now that the least of my worries, ill invest some money in gold, buy gold bars gradualy also invest some money in 1 of my EA and use super low risk and make something like 2% a month, then invest some other money in other things....

Yes, I am a programmer. I used to program in VBA (Visual Basic for Applications) at my last job at Mercer Investment Consulting.

Since then, I have resigned in order to pursue trading, however, I am looking to get back into the workforce once again. I taught myself C++ over the years, in particular so that I could program in MQL4, and it has been nice because MQL is such a great language to work with.

One of the last things I would like to do for my indicators/EAs, though, is to export the historical MT4 data to Microsoft Excel, so I can log and record everything there (including -- at least potentially -- ticks), and analyze it in more detail that way, outside of the platform.

I have made all of these mistakes as well, and even subscribed to many of these garbage marketers myself, in the past. Just check out FF member Shug, who is a professional internet marketer and aspiring professional trader. He started the Forex from a Former Internet Marketer's Perspective thread, where I have posted in Post #3 about some potential internet marketers who are out there just to take your money. In my opinion, Jason Fielder, Bill Poulous, Mark McRae and a few others top the list.

My suggestion: stop spending and wasting your money on useless crap that you even admitted does not work, and start learning trading for yourself, the hard way, through trial-and-error., and by making mistakes There is a wealth of knowledge on these forums, and you shouldn't even ask where to begin, because you can probably start anywhere and still learn more than you would from those other losers on the internet. Or.... alternatively... if you can't help but spend some money... just send me a PM, and I'll teach you myself for the right price... lol

FXCM sounds like the best broker for you. I used to be with IBFX, and they got bought out by FXCM several weeks ago.

Since then, FXCM has introduced much lower spreads, and they have a Forex Factory rep who responds to everyone's inquiries here on this forum. His name is Jason Rogers. Their customer service is pretty good as well and withdrawals should never be a problem because they are so big. And if you are outside the USA, they just rolled over their non-USA clients to their new and better USA-priced-based data feed, resulting in better prices and spreads. I would suggest you look into it.

wow man, you are so smart. I hope you are a lawyer or something, cause your conclusions are as sharp as the sun is bright.

I generally don't post but I'll make an exception for this thread as there's a lot of misconceptions on trading in general - and trading to earn money/get rich. First of all, every trader has a different mentality, personality and psychology. Does it mean one is better than the other? No. Does it mean that the person who is right most of the time is better? No. Ultimately, it is a mash-up between your trades, risk management and the most important element - consistency.

I read a few pages back, and I will agree that trading is not all that is hyped up to be. Even in a bank, we share limits to trade each currency. If my team holds more than $20 mio in AUD trades, I can't execute a trade in AUD as it will put the bank at "currency risk". Do my colleagues hold differing views from mine? Of course. Do you constantly wonder how two people in the same job have differing ideas (when your ultimate goal is the same - to hit your budget)? Of course. Do you feel you could do without the hassle of dealers shouting to you to get a quote and make market for clients? Of course. But at the end of the day, it comes down to what you like to do. If you like to trade, then better be sure you are good at it - and by good, it means consistent. Trading on your own takes away a lot of the stress, because you don't need to meet budget in order to get remunerated. But sitting around people with similar mindsets and market insight always helps, but not entirely.

If you're tasked with making $6 mio a year, that would mean having to make $500k a month and $75k a day. You get roughly 20 working days a month. If you're trading with a notional of $1 mio per trade, that would mean you have to roughly make more or less 750 pips a day. This is then divided further if you trade with $2 mio or $4 mio (~375 pips or ~188 pips). Do you think it's fun to work in a job when you're pretty much forced to take positions to try to achieve your budget?

At the end of the day, it's all about being consistent. The minute you try to put it in your mind that you must hit a certain % or certain amount of profits by a certain timeline - then you're doing it wrong. Just because you're handed a $6 mio budget, doesn't mean you should act stupidly and go out of your trading comfort to reach that $6 mio just because you want that additional 3% on top of your bonus. It's better to make 1,000 good trades than to win the lottery with 1 good trade. If you run ~600 pips on each of the GBPJPY and GBPNZD in the last month, would you give yourself a pat on the back? Yeah, for sure. But is your job done? No. Well, not if you haven't met your budget until YTD Q3. And with the market's lack of volatility this year, I'd be surprised if most desks can actually hit their budget come year end. However, it is still one of the most lucrative jobs in the world, but it is dying down with the progress of technology. There is no sure-fire system that can grant you the consistency you will ever get to earn what a desk trader earns. If systems are that good, then there wouldn't be a need for people to sit at the desks.

If you want to earn money from trading, don't trade because you have to - trade because you want to. I'd like to think the market is like mother nature in a way, in the sense that if you show no respect for the market or other traders (good or bad), then you'll be sure to have your ass handed to you one day. And not all bad traders are "bad" per se. Take a spot trader in HK bank few years back, the bank kept him because he made bad trades 90% of the time - and his colleagues just go against his trades on a bigger notional - and he will cut his trades early. Be thankful if you can make money consistently if you're trading on your own, because that's pretty much what a desk trader wants to achieve at the end of the day. If you're new to trading and manage your risk well, then yeah you can easily make $3k - $4k a month and on good months maybe more. But if you're looking to "invest" a large sum in trading ($100k - $1 mio), I don't see what's wrong with a 40-50% p.a. as that is more than enough to get people by. But if you want to go for the jugular and be remunerated $300k - $500k a year when you're just starting off, it's easier to trade other people's money because it feels more like a game more than anything else. That's just my personal thought.
