If this is like other Ukraine crises, the VIX pop will be short-lived. But with a long weekend coming up - and after the persistent bull stretch, equities may sell off today and tomorrow both.

I can't complain, my UVXY spreads benefit, only my TLT spread is threatened with TLT up day after day...

nice thing about spreading on VIX options - if I catch a spike I may get out of the short leg at net gain and then get to sell another leg if/when the spike comes back down. I am trying to buy back the $20 short puts for $0.30 today...

I did a trade on TSLA... calls for today expiration.
Since it got good news in premarket about building supercharger stations in China... I had an idea it would continue to rise in RTH.... but I did a lousy job for closing. TSLA breached ATH, and wanted to either buy a cheap OTM call right at the open, OR wait for small pullback and then buy. I was expecting pullback to 267, but that did not happened. I tried to buy at open, but had no luck, and then bought few contracts of 275 call for $0.32... closed for $0.37 ...

Could get $0.50 for it, but I can see now are they $0.17 Yeah... that scalping thing...
Hope is dangerous in this game.

275 is too far OTM, good thing you closed

Yes I know... just had luck to exploit initial craziness, otherwise a stupid trade. 270 calls was the right choice. Someone bought at $0.76 fast after open, and later it was $2.00... just a few minutes later

Expensive stocks like that consider bull spreads or put spreads, reduce your costs

Hope everyone has had a good week and a good month. I've had better, but I can't complain. Next week we should see some volatility. ECB & NFP. Today's EUR action suggests Draghi will come through with something, but we'll see. EUR might catch a good bounce if not.

I am in lots of SPY/SSO, UVXY, TLT spreads as noted above, all are helped by time decay over a long weekend, I will try not to think about trading for a few days.

HYG sold off hard in July and bounced back in August, pretty much for the reasons suggested in the article above. The large overhang in Oct puts looks like a bet that what happened in July will recur in Sept-Oct. Taking a broader view, it could be a bet that the bond market will sell off, generally. The high-yield, high-risk is the first part of that market that would sell off, and there is a brewing expectation that the end of the taper and increasing FedHead talk about a funds rate increase will negatively impact the bond market.

HYG is an interesting etf, sometimes has some of the top options volume daily trade, but I have never traded it. Yet.
