hey liviu...... there does not appear to be a solution to the fifo rule now..... ibfx was the only broker of mine that had been working around the rule.... i also use etradefx and fxcm, both had been already implementing it....

it is as you say, a big inconvienence, for some of us...... anyone with only single orders per pair could probably care less..... but those of us trading several timeframes such as, 4 hour orders with 40 pip targets, day orders with 100 pip targets, week orders with 500 pip targets and month orders with multi thousand pip targets will see the rule in a different light...... some of my other accounts have still standing orders over 2 years old and only half way to their 7000 pip targets....

there will be no individual trade accountability.... the 7000 pip target month order that not yet begun to achieve it's goal will be closed because a thirty minute 20 pip target order had less time on board..... it's senseless....h

multiple accounts etc -the cumbersome part/ keeping track of all changes is on our side now.
i presume the guys who decided to implement the rule were idiots but under command of some other very smart guys.
to keep track of what FIFO imposes on our side and to keep track of old trades would simply mean just to MULTIPLY the broker's commission by the number of traders i need to close and reopen.
likely Forex volume will drop (at least in US) ;

Any way to start a "petition" that NFA may eventually pay attention too? kind of petition the white house - the president is supposed to respond to any petition that reaches 100 K signatures?

hey davit..... you are absolutely right, it does look like a bad idea...... prepared to see 98 on the usdjpy.... 97 will close all my usdjpy trades....

my long term usdjpy target is still 148..... over the past 2 years i've probably built up 30k trading it long only.... so kinda ahead..... but for the past 6 months i've been on the wrong side for sure......

i've only had 10 losing days so far this year in all accounts combined..... all ten days were in this account.... and if i remember correct, all ten had most to do with usdjpy trades hitting stoploss's....... underestimated the ukraine crises and paid for it....

still expectin 107 by year end.... so things should end well......h

place the indicator below on any daily chart.... adds up the accounts profit or loss for each day and plots it in the manner seen below..... place the mouse curser over the graph to read that days value.....

should compile and work on every version, at least to 646.... h

hey zebra..... here ya go..... even if using the newer builds meta editors, mine currently is 646, you can still write indicators and such in the old style...... using start, init, deinit and such.... in other words you do not have to use any of the new functions like onstart, onint, oncalculate and all.....

so much of the info out there based on versions 509 and earlier will still work in the newest metaeditors..... but it might be wise to at least look at metaquotes newest 'preferred' structure of coding/functions and all the changes.....

mq5 did not go over as well as metaquotes would have hoped so they are trying to drag us, kicking and screaming, to their way of thinkin.....

let's face it..... trading is not easy.... if it was, bear stearns and lehman would have never gone bankrupt...... and, stringo and fat would sittin on a mountain of money rather than selling magazines.......

try to spend some time studying mq5..... it is the way to go...... whether we like it or not......h

This will give me some light reading ... . I want to take some of the work out of my trading; I generally do the same mechanical analysis every day and an EA could probably assist with that to no small degree. More importantly, I just want to backtest some ideas ... . I generally use Fib retracement pivot points a lot, but I've always wondered whether the .764 and the .236 are the best entries and exits and whether, for example, the Camarillas might be better. I also generally look to sell if price is below the 1H 200 SMA and the 6H 200 SMA; to buy if price is above them; and, if they conflict, to not enter, so I've wondered if I should be using other time frames as an entry filter ... . An EA could help assess these various "tweaks" ... . Just need to get off my lazy ass, starting reading, start writin' some code ... .

well my first week of fifo ended badly..... literally none of the dozens of my ea's and scripts will trade correctly....

what gave me the most trouble was when 2 orders had the same orderopentime..... when several orders had the same time, OrderSelect(cnt, SELECT_BY_POS), never once returned the proper ticket.... the error 150 code would lockup the platform.... and yes in all other cases, several hundred, where the orderopentimes differed it returned the proper ticket.....

decided to close almost everything and waste the weekend rewriting..... so now i will be both fifo and and no hedge compliant.....

senseless bureaucrats..... maybe we should make them both fifo and no hedge compliant..... think about......h

finally figured out the identical orderopentime, it has to do with scripts that place pending orders.... with fast scripts placing pending orders, it is possible to have many with the same orderopentime down to the second.... the standard closeall scripts commonly seen on the net, will not work in these cases...... below was posted on another forum..... h

hey mladen.... the time error was mine.... actually as you said, the smallest increment is seconds..... for some reason i had minutes in my mind....

figured out the time issue... it has to do with pending orders.... if a script sends several pending orders quickly, it is possible for them all to have the same orderopentime down to the same second..... see the picture below.... there are 3 groups with same opentime......

last week i had probably a dozen such instances.....

i have been testing opening and closing since market opening..... without the extra ticket() function i always get the error 150 code.... with it, they close properly.....

the safest solution, for me, is to rewrite everything that sends orders and include a sleep() between them.....h

I actually broke down and bought Andrew Young's Expert Advisor Programming for MetaTrader 5 ... . Has a few good templates and examples that will get even a novice like me well on the way to setting up a full EA with complex triggers and such.

The unfortunate thing in a way is that a lot of the MT4 code won't work in MT5 without a bit of work ... . Nature of the beast, I suppose ... . But I hate to see all that work go down the tubes ... .

hey zebra...... yeah, but that's progress.....

not sure if any states based brokers even offer mq5 yet...... the russians are about the only ones interested in mq5 right now..... you can check out a few of their forums for help....

just in case you are not aware, their manner of writing/speech is quite different from ours..... it might appear as though they are blunt or inconsiderate but it's just the way they casually talk..... they really mean no offense....

My Russian wife has quite a few friends here in the U.S. (mostly IT folks) from various former Soviet bloc countries, and they are quite an interesting lot. They really don't mince around much, get straight to the point, tell you what's on their mind, and tell you exactly what they want.

My general function as the token American is to be there to respond to the part of the dinner or drinking conversation that inevitably rolls around to answering the question, "Say, what is it with you Amerikansky?" And I say to myself, "Oh, boy, here we go ... ."

hey pip...... we can not pm charts so will reply here......

i usually trade only in the direction of positive swap..... swap on an active average sized account could easily run 6k a year...... that's another tractor for free......

the best way for me to pyramid trades is by using the monthly charts..... start slowly placing trades at the turns and gradually space the trades out further apart as the market moves in your favor.... otherwise your trades will get top heavy and if the market turns against you, you'll lose money far faster than you made it..... this is main reason for traders getting squeezed and short covering.....

you must have an idea of the average potential peak to valley on the monthly, weekly and daily charts...... knowing this you can begin to layoff adding new trades as you approach the end of the potential.......

the charts below probably will not see a closed trade this year..... i'll keep slowly adding additional trades but being fully aware of oversold/retrace points.....

do not underestimate how hard it is to hold a winning trade for 12 or more months.... and try to not over leverage.....

the small timeframe charts below might show the trades , but the monthly charts shows their potential......h

edit..... should have mentioned the charts/account below is a mini testing an ea..... so pip values are small .... if the eurusd shorts go under water, dollar value will be small......

in my standard accounts all usd longs, such as usdjpy long or short eurusd have been closed as of earlier today.......h

Was kind of wondering what all those EUR/CAD short positions popping up in "Trades" were all about ... .

Also never thought of using Zigzags for setting up entries, particularly for enter and hold pairs like EUR/NZD short ... (great idea which I am now going to steal and putz with ... ).

it's rare event when all 9 timeframes, minute thru month, on the 5 eur pairs in the box will all be the same color...... if all were red, that would be 45 zigzags all down on the same tick..... if we excluded the eurchf, but included the eurjpy, that would be 54 zigzags all down on the same tick......

usually a good time to lighten up on shorts...... to much of a good thing can ruin the party......

i probably will hold those eurnzd..... 10 to 20k might be possible in it, still above 10 on the stochastic..... eurgbp above 10 also.....

thursday might be a big day..... euroland cpi......h

Kind of an ah-ha moment for me, you pointing that out ... . ... . And a great dashboard ... .

Now all I want for Christmas is a Windows-based machine to run MT4 on glitch-free ... (love the Mac, but obviously has its limitations in forex trading environments).

looks like +/- 600 pips...... wide open risk here.....h

looks like it's going to be the -1500......

the average eurnzd monthly atr is about 550 pips..... september and october might very well do what june could not..... break 1.5 .....

the july's retrace of junes down leg stalled at 61.8 ...... that oughta give the fibonaccia believers something to write home about..... two attempts to clear that line on the daily chart both failed......

it's hard for me to see any attempt a 1.59 being successful......h
