Looking for envelope alarm

Hi does anyone know of an alarm that would sound or show up on a chart, whan a candlestick/bar closed through the upper or lower band of the 'Envelope' indicator on MT4, thanks in advance jonmem

Don't know of one, so I wrote one for you.

Set LookbackCandles to a negative value if you don't want the indy to plot the envelopes. Otherwise it will plot the envelopes back that number of candles.

The MAperiod, MAmethod, AppliedPrice and DeviationPercent all work the same as for MT4's factory-supplied Envelopes indy.


--- Set AlertCandle = 1 if you want the alert to trigger when the current candle completes (i.e. becomes candle #1 on the chart), and also closes above the envelope high, or below the envelope low, and hence a new candle (#0) starts to form.

--- Set AlertCandle = 0 if you want the alert to trigger immediately current price (candle #0) exceeds the envelope high, or falls below the envelope low. (The alert should trigger only once even if the candle meets the criteria repeatedly while it is forming.)


The alert, when triggered, will be transmitted as follows:

--- If ChartAlert = true, the standard MT4 alert will sound/display.

--- If EmailSubject is non-blank, then an e-mail will be sent provided that the e-mail facilities in MT4 have been configured correctly (e.g. see here and here).


I haven't tested this exhaustively, but it's been modeled on code that's worked correctly in the past.

Thanks so much for posting that programming. I modified it some to my needs. It now has the ability to choose the alert for the upper or lower bands. I took out the very long(but interesting) tutorial in the EA, and made it so the sound repeats in the time reduction version code.

Is it posible to also have a visual alert on the graph (an arrow or a dot) on the candle that closes above / below the envelope?

It schould be of much help on backtesting.

was looking forward to try out your indicator, but it won't load on my charts (MT4 version 4, build 646) and when I try to compile it, this is the result: "106 error(s), 8 warning(s)"

Most of the errors are like this:

"'==' - unexpected token Envelopes alert.mq4 1015 14"

Also:

I'm sure it's because of the latest, as usual, forced updates of MT4, but wondered if you could fix this.

Thanks for this nice indicator, cdto. I'm trying it out now (it loads to my charts, so far so good).

Too bad there's some reference to an email alert in the 'input section' of your indicators, but it looks like
you changed your mind and then forgot to delete that reference, right? Would love to get email alerts,
or even better 'push notifications' when price has broken the upper/lower band of the envelopes
(email alert would do, 'cause I know how to change it into a push notification alert).

I did my best to add a pushnotification myself and hope it works - didn't get a change to test it yet.

Many of my indicators stopped working after MetaQuotes released build 600. As a result, I quit using MQL4.

Sorry, but all I can suggest is that you find a MT4 br0ker who is still offering build 509.

In the meantime, I found another indicator on this thread and modified it as to sending push notifications (works fine, much to my surprise :-))

Finding a broker who still supports the older MT4 builds is hard enough, but then there's always the threat of them stop supporting the older builds
and that's not something I fancy...

Thanks again for your hard work, it's a real shame MetaQuotes messed up everybodies (trading) lives...

I could not be arsed yet to learn the whole new mql4 syntax (because of my health implications I do not know whether it makes sense or not) ...

I've compiled the mq4 file first with the build 646 editor, but it gave 106 errors. Then compiled it with the 509 editor (which I had on my hard disk, because used it before to compile files that were a problem in the newer MT4 builds), after which it worked fine, and then I read about your advice here (and through the link). You wrote about compiling with the old editor:

I do understand that it's useless to copy the version, compiled with build 509 editor, to the indicators folder (not the scripts folder, right?), but it can do no harm, can it?


Just a quick note about your health problems: more than five years ago, my ex-girlfriend was diagnosed with malignant cancer and by accident I came across a controversial theory on 'disease'. That was the night before a scheduled mastectomy was to be performed on her and the only reason I accepted and understood the importance of this new theory, was because I've always been a 'free thinker' and already new about the connection between body, psyche/emotions. The name of this theory (a post doctoral thesis that has been refused to be tested by the University of Tübingen, 33 years ago (!)) is 'German New Medicine' (GNM) - lately it's been renamed to 'New Medicin', but you'll find more information if you Google the old name. This theory will never be accepted by conventional medicine, because it would put them out of business (only leave some room for, mostly, surgical emergency applications and support for GNM).


If you decide to read up on it, I'm willing to answer some questions, but you'll have to do the main work yourself (get rid of old school paradigms, like the 'germ theory' and other lucrative idea's that our 'sickness industry' is build upon). If you're like most people, you won't make it past the well organized slander campaign on the Internet, regarding the person of Dr. Hamer, but my guess is that you'll be able to see through that and focus on the man's work, not his 'character' (which is fine, believe me; I did some thorough research not only on him, but on his work and the scam that our current medical industry - they call it 'health care' - really is). One more thing to give you an idea of how seriously 'hunted' Dr. Hamer and his work is: In 2004 a new organization saw the light ('Meta Medicine' or 'Meta Health'), which is build mainly on the work of Dr. Hamer, a fact they hardly ever mention. They also 'covered' this fact by surrounding the core of their therapy (GNM) with more conventionally accepted ones. It's funny to watch this, when you know the underlying reasons for this whole charade (I talked with Jon Robson, from 'Meta Medicine' and he agreed with my 'suspicions', while also saying that he's forever thankful to Dr. Hamer for not giving up on his theory, even after having his license to practice medicine taken away and seen prison two times from the inside).

(the little reference to GNM starts at 0:14 of this video - the introductory talk is quite long and to be frank, a bit dull, but that might be because of me having been around that block a few times already :-) You can read my comment and Jon's answer under-need the video. I may be wrong, but I assume that if you copy both the mq4 and ex4 file it may cause errors, ...

Can someone explain how do we use this indicator? There are 2 moving averages and i had it setup on a 1 hour and 4 hour usdjpy chart. The chart was under the upper band on 1 hour and above the upper band on 4hour. It kept telling me that its above the band for both 1 hour and 4 hour. Please explain how to use this properly in simple english please?

I've made some changes to the 'Envelopes Alert Mod' (fxdaytrader) in order to make its use a bit more easy for starting traders. Someone asked me how to put this indicator on the chart(s): just add the indicator to the MT4 indicators folder and restart your MT4 program (shortcut: right click on any indicator in the 'navigator' window and click 'Refresh', which will make the added indicator visible after a few seconds). Then either drag the indicator from the navigator window onto your chart or double click the indicator and add it that way. The Envelope indicator has only an upper and lower line, the middle one (moving average) you have to add to the chart yourself (make sure it has the same period, shift, method and price as the Envelope).



Here's the modified 'Envelopes Alert Mod' from fxdaytrader (again, thanks for your generosity mate!)
