I wouldn't go so far as to say Germany is resentful of Europe, although the opposite has gained some traction in recent (bad) years. Germany is guided by reason, not emotion, and reason is still saying that the EZ and the Euro are the way to further her goals. She will support the Euro, while the Euro supports herself.

The Euro cannot survive without the EU. We will be out of the EU within about 2 years. During that time Spain will need a bailout as will Italy. Germany can't afford it, so Spain will be dumped from the Euro as will Italy. Then there will be just Germany and France left, of the major countries. France won't have that; they already have one foot in the exit door. Aside from the damning election outcome there too, their supermarkets still price in FF as well. Not too much of a logistical headache then to revert back. Then there will be just Germany and the tinpot countries left in the Euro... hmmm.

The Euro is about a lot more than its actual value.
It was brought in to make trade between neighboring countries simpler, reduce red tape, allow tourists to better calculate their costs, etc.
Unless something better is proposed, it will remain.

What is shocking about Nigel Farage is the deep hypocrisy he utilised to build his political platform from inside the democratically elected European Parliament. He stands for Old Englanders who still fear Germany and France (oh, and gypsies). These people believe we should still be manufacturing Spitfires and Austin Mini cars.

At least the same people in France made their sentiments clear by voting for the racist National Front party (N.F.). Nigel Farage's party does not parade the racist banner. But N.F. knows who is voting for him.

When these people get into power, and I am sure N.F. will not intend this, we will not be far away from bullying racist gangs roaming the streets (which we already have enough of) who think they have the mandate to cow all of us into submission so that there is no one to vote for any more. Now, let me remember where that happened last?

Is it racist to not want scroungers across Europe flooding into the UK fleecing our overly generous welfare system (here we call it "benefits" because it is more beneficial to receive handouts from the State than to go out to work), who take every advantage of our free (inter)National Health Service, fill up all the school places, get free housing - for all of them, extended families as well, and the downtrodden, beleaguered British taxpayer foots the bill. That is the Freedom of Movement Act. We are screwed.

Stopping immigration is racist because all the studies show that immigration makes a country more wealthy. Hard for some people to accept but they are the facts.

The UK's problem lies in managing the immigration and giving out too many benefits for too little in return, not an immigration problem but poor government.

good point, and let's not forget Europe is just the same system as the United States have, it's basically a federal system, there's very little difference.

I am not saying stop immigration. I am saying we need control of our borders. We let in people to scrounge, or disappear into the black market, or pay very little in tax. In other words, the people we let in take more from the system then they contribute. We should be selective in who we let in, nothing to do with their colour or creed but everything to do with what they can contribute to the system. That is exactly what other countries do - why can't we, without being thrown the racist card?

We are the most heavily taxed nation on earth. Something like the top 28,000 earners paying 14% of all income tax. What if they all got so pissed off and left? What are we left with? A load of low paid immigrants who can't even speak English? Scroungers? Who will then pay for them all? We need to make life better for the high earners, not bleed them dry. That is what is wrong with this country; people are resentful of wealth and success.

I guessed this thread would pick up after the Eurozone elections.

Can the EU be pluralistic society. We in the US elected a black president. Can any European country say anything similar?
