MetaCoder & others, how are you guys getting on with this? Been running it for about a week now on demo, using just the 1a version, and 0.5% of about $1000 bank and 0.01 lots. All in all in profit, all be it not a lot.
Still don't fully understand how the trades are managed.

Again I don't have much time.But listen.
Hedging is pure simple mathematic system.If you already didn't,read on investopedia or somwhere about hedging how it works.Read very first page of this thread...We use this pairs for trade.
1. GBPUSD
2. USDCHF
3. EURJPY
4. GBPCHF
5. CHFJPY
6. EURCHF

If we buy first three,we sell other three pairs.

1. GBPUSD - Winning
2. USDCHF - Winning
3. EURJPY - Winning
4. GBPCHF - Losing
5. CHFJPY - Losing
6. EURCHF - Losing

or

1. GBPUSD - Losing
2. USDCHF - Losing
3. EURJPY - Losing
4. GBPCHF - Winning
5. CHFJPY - Winning
6. EURCHF - Winning

If you still don't understand whats happens here,learn about correlation between pairs.
Of course it's very important calculation for lot size.In fact there is a whole THING about hedging (except pairs).
Use EA,test it a lot on demo and then make your own conclusion .
I don't have time now but after tomorrow I will be able again.
And of course I don't use EA in live trading.Although it works well on demo.

REMEMBER,also : Noone can better learn you to trade except yourself and testing on demo.Slute!

thanks for the ea! you can learn a lot from this type of trading. The only issue is when the reverse doesn't reverse and then you find out what type of balls your made out of.

See this lot sizes ... They are not fixed 1.00 or for example 0.8 ... They are 0.86 1.25 1.37 1.01.Think a little about that

Yours shows the same lot sizes because the lots sizes are already at the smallest. You can't go smaller than 0.01 lots.

The larger the base lot size, the more accurate the hedging will be. It amounts to having more decimal places for the math to resolve to.

Ok, thanks. Will try using 0.1 lots. Don't want to use 1.0 lots as I know if/when I decide to go live, I will not be confident enough to risk 1.0 lots (trying to make the demo as real as possible).

Here is my today example with small lots.With just 200 $ of balance.There can't be same lot size for each pair , like on yours picture above.There is some error.Hedging is for big amount of money.Because we HUNT 10 % of total balance. But anyway you can make it works with smaller amount if you want it. It is for larger accounts.

In your thread (Basket 14 EA system) on the first page you gave the following suggestion for "Settings for Various Leverage Levels"


Leave the settings as-is for a 200:1 leverage account.

Set MaxMarginToUse to 2.0 for a 100:1 leverage account and leave ProfitPct at 1.0.

Set MaxMarginToUse to 3.0 and ProfitPct to 0.3 for a 10:1 leverage account. This may seem risky but most of us will want to push risk if we get restricted to 10:1 accounts. Even with this risk level, you shouldn't see Lowest Margin drop much below 200%.

For my 50:1 demo, I am using MaxMarginToUse at 3.0 and ProfitPct at 0.75. So far it's working fine.

Just opened a demo GBP account with Oanda, but the EA would not work on it for some reason (not opening any trades or displaying any info at all on the cahrt). Yes, got it set-up correctly etc just like it was set up on my other demo accounts with Swiss Quote and Admiral Markets, but wanted to try it on Oanda because of the unit lots which I am thinking would work out the different size lots more accurately. Any idea why it won't work with Oanda? I know they are US based, but this demo is with their European base and GBP as currency. Many thanks

Oanda is complicated for me.They web trader is ok and simple but everything related with Meta Trader is complicated.Why you don't choose any other broker with good MT support.You are testing on demo.In my opinion you don't need any CRAZY broker to trade.Just look at top 10 who offers MT4 and that's all.Spreads are almost same on all.Salute.

i'm posting what i've found, thought it is useless, in money sense, to me, it is useful, in educational sense, to me, and could to the others who trade this----for this reason, i post here.

i'm lazy to skip my backtest charts/stats/settings, i'll go directly to my conclusion.

conclusion is, unfortunately, this is not profitable, not only that, it wipe out an account as well.

my recommendation 3 months ago is to add one more entry mechanic (in addition to every hour, e.g):

for every X pips, add a position. this is very important as it will make sure when the winner is winning, you gain sufficient exposure on winners side.

this overcome the situation that price rise quickly in 1 hour for 100 pips and you end up with only 1 entry.......

last weekend, i finally got time to apply this idea ---- still a loser! the performance seeminlgy improves a bit, but always end up a wipe-out.

all my efforts cannot circumvent the fundamental flaw of the method:

what if the market reverse before the TP, you add more on the other side, and market reverse again, and you add more to the initial side, and market and you both chasing each other again and again....... during this chasing, your DD is bigger and bigger (due to larger position size) enough to run out of your margin and wipe you out.

in other words, when market doesn't want to trend from (or doesn't give you a bias on) your initial entry level, but the EA keeps entering, a wipe out is inescapable.

anyone who trade LIVE, watch it out, in 3~4 months, the wipe-out is on the way. in fact, now is great time to trade it since the range is small. when a currency pair's range is large, it will come.

lastly, this is still an original idea, and might be turned into a winner.

my only suggestion to the developers is to find a way to use an adaptive basis level. this basis level is adaptive to the recent market movements. in original metacoder EA the basis level is fixed(when you start the EA), which seems wrong if the market has since gone another 20 days ---- as things have changed.

an adaptive basis level might even be a 50ema, .......lol, nima.

First of all I want to thank you for all your efforts and to tell you I'm admired by your brilliant mind!

Just my two cents...

Couldn't the "death by a thousand cuts" phenomenon be partially avoided by inserting in the code a global stop loss and stop taking new trades function if the equity falls below certain amount (external variable) or if the drawdown reaches a certain percent of the last flat balance? After the stop anyone can decide wether start the ea again and let slowly grow the account up again. In my opinion is better a huge drawdown than the account wipeout.
