Buff's SMSF EA

Thanks buff for the feedback. I've been wondering whether after the EA being drag to the chart "SMSF 1.00.mq4" . Is it a standalone EA ? Meaning, without the indicator it also can work ?

Sorry demolationz that I missed your above question. I can't answer that. I'll get on to my programmer as she is an occasional member on FF and see if she will answer all the tech questions direct on this thread as there are a few now. I'm just the ideas man, not the tech man

Here is another set up that may have some promise. This too is on the EUR/AUD 1hr chart and is slightly different to the set up mentioned above on the same timeframe and pair. Remember the EA gets put on the 1hr chart. I will use the same 1440 higher timeframe filter with settings of 12,26,9 & 1,8,3. But I will not use the MA or the MA slope, so false for those two inputs.

Nil stop. Don't panic as there is another built in one which I'll explain shortly. Nil take profit. Settings of 12,26,9 & 1,8,3 also. Trade the full 24hrs and nil Friday close time. Trailstop activation use 10 and trail stop of 50. FilterTFClose select true as this will be your stop. So if the 1440 chart has a change of signal from buy to sell or vice verse, then all open trades will be closed.

The only issue of not having an actual stop in is that I need this if I want to use the money management auto lots feature as this position size is based on the stop size compared to your account balance. There is a way around this by putting a big number in the stop input that shouldn't never get hit, then do a bit of reverse engineering on a demo by playing with different auto lot numbers until your find a number that gives you a good starting position size. Hope that makes sense.

I tested this set up from 1st Jan 2012 to this date at 0.1 lot. Not spectacular but a nice steady equity graph, Profit Factor of 1.51, max drawdown of 14.13%, Profit Trades of 48.51% with average winner $55.52 and average loser at $34.70.

There is plenty of potential to play with all of these settings and come up with something yourself. Don't rely on my settings all the time as we all have different risk tolerances and goals etc. Cheers. Jim

There were some technical questions posted in this thread, namely at post# 2, 12,17,18 and 21, that I couldn't answer. I did send an email to my Programmer, Christina from Wise-EA, requesting she come on the thread and answer them directly. She did respond to me stating that FF have now placed her in the commercial user category so she is not permitted to respond directly to this thread. Here is her response;

To answer your question, all of the questions about error message is generated by the indicators, not EA, the only reason you see them there is because EA is using the indicator. If you really want to get rid of them, the indicator needs to be checked out and rewrite (or modify).

It has nothing to do with the EA itself, but more the custom indicators used to assist the EA. These custom indicators were designed and built by two separate Programmers. And as I don't need to tidy up the EA as it is only for my personal use (not commercial), then I'm quite happy to let it slide for now. Hope that helps with those questions asked. Cheers. Jim

Thanks for the confirmation. That is pretty close to what I get also. I guess a fair depends on which broker you use and what times their 4hr candles finish. But they all should be pretty close. I'm just playing around with a few more other volatile pairs on the 4hr. EUR/JPY looks pretty good so far. Still plenty of testing to go. Best to stick with the big daily range moving pairs than the old faithful majors like EUR/USD. Haven't looked at that pair for quite some time now. Cheers. Jim

Thanks littlesnake, it all depends what timeframe you are trading. I tend to trade a minimum of 1hr charts, but much prefer 4hr or Daily charts. Mainly use this EA as a semi auto type EA where it will get me in trades and set some basic stop/profit etc, and eventually when I get to my trades, I then manage manually. I like to trade into the higher timeframe, something like placing the EA on a 1hr chart and using the Daily as a filter, or the 4hr using the Weekly (10080) as the filter. I tend to trade the more volatile pairs like GBP/JPY, GBP/NZD, EUR/AUD. Anything with some decent moves on the 1hr, but basically any pair on the Dailys.
