Normally build 509 should not download the update on its own anyway. For that you need either download an updated version off your broker or connect to MetaQuote's update server yourself .

And so if you have it installed in your program files with administrative protection/permission then any program has to ask you permission to change.That is just how windows works

Sounds right to me as my computer always asks for permission to update my mt4

OK, but as I understand things, we should NOT be installing MT4 in our program files - which is a problem that I have!.

Great stuff.Hopefully there will be an easy solution for it all.

The gist of what Im gathering is that the language is not compatible to a certain extent and that there are loads of new errors and warnings when compiling the indicator.

Worst case scenario is that the indies will have to be re-written and who knows how long that will take across the board.

Luckily we are plenty of guys using the GEN indies so hopefully we can find a solution between us.

For now we just need to try and hold off on the update as long as possible?

We should not be doing it in this way as program files folder is for "windows" to use and has a different security level/setting and so you do not want stuff that gets updated regular in that folder if there is any contamination in what you upgrade that then there is a problem according to my knowledge.Also im sure that the program files folder is the the intial destination folder when you download the installer for mt4 so there should not be to big a problem there IMHO

I have 4 different mt4s installed in my program file folder and just one outside of it.

Best to do is copy your existing mt4 folder onto a removable usb stick and keep it there for now.

I will do the same and have then we can always just upload it again if there is a problem even if for now we just use the old build to give us the indicators and the new build to take the trades.

Im sure there will be a better solution in no time BUT we just need to be able to keep ourselfs trading for now.

You should be able to run most old indicators if you follow the right procedure:

The Genesis package I maintain has been updated to handle the new release since a couple of months ago. Get the GMTS v1.10 file. Not much else has been updated. I have written a lot of indicators so it is a significant amount of work to update all of the so I'm unlikely to do it all. Some will be updated over time.

Thanks for taking the time to post the solution and answer for the problem.

Thank you for all the work that you have put in on the GEN indies the are really,extremely,unbelievably,amazingly useful and your contribution is duly noted.

I hope the sh__t does not hit the fan.
I downloaded a copy of MT4 build 574 last week Monday and could not run any of my custom indies and took a beat beating from trying to make do with what I could download directly from code base.
Thank God I was able to revert back to Build 509 and get my proper indies back on Tuesday.
MT4 hear this "If it aint broke, don't try to fix it!"
I will resist all efforts to upgrade to Build 600

Missed so much action but had time take a short on UJ waited for a second helping but it did not materialize we fight another day.
I think the Yen pairs are just the way to go for now.

Too late for me! Not good...

I noticed for instance my HA indicator missing candles.

I can't try one of your indi's - the Genesis alert!

So at some point we can assume that MT4 will be discontinued - unless the trader community kicks up a fuss over this.

Most guys still use MT4

I just wanted to tell you that my platform is build 600 and works like the old ones (all indicators loaded successfully).

GA short. Okay setup (albeit pre TO), bad stop positioning - had it too tight on news and was caught on spread widening.

Lost out on about 70 pips.

Btw my build 600 update transitioned smoothly and the indicators that I use all seem to work without problem. My MT4s are installed on a drive other than C. A bit strange getting my head around where the indicators etc are now located.

Hi Guys

Thanks for the info about the new build.Hope it transitions smoothly on mine.I will be updating mine on Friday afternoon during all the NFP news and stuff that I dont trade and hopefully I wont have to spend my weekend trying to fix problems.The new build and mt5 is inevitable eventually I suppose.

I will be around for NY again and will see if I can squeeze off a trade pre FO or before LO as Im busy again today.(Hopefully just till end of April)

PA retraced me, shame. My fault, entry was way too late. That was my trade for today, off too work.

May i ask, is there an indi to close a trade in parts?
