haven't been trading that long, but i think it's possible on average... not strictly 30% a month. there'll be months where you could earn more and months where you screw up. part of the trading process.

Your problem is going to be liquidity. At some point the number of lots you trade will be broken up by your broker and closed in partial increments and not as a total unit. That is your liquidity point. It might be 30 lots, it might be 50. It depends on the broker and the market's ability to absorb your trade size.

Personally I would not leave millions of dollars in a broker account. When you find out your liquidity level, then only leave enough money to cover your margin and stop loss per currency pair you trade. Remove the rest. A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush, you know? I know people who have lost money to a broker who decided to go out of business and take the money in those accounts.

As you close each trade over your limit, simply withdraw those earnings. For this reason, you will reach a point of consistent profit, but it will depend on the accuracy of your system. As your account grows, outside of your broker, making 30% of the balance is not possible. It is easy to make 30% of $10,000, but not so easy to make 30% of $10,000,000. Understand? At the point of liquidity maybe your goal will switch from some percentage to some numerical figure? Instead of trying to make 30%, you might consider just making $50k a day per currency pair.

While your question makes sense when you have a small account, it has no answer when your account is large.

My goal is 30% permonth, based on $20k account, withdrawing profits back to 20k at the end of each month, mainly I dont trust brokers, and I'mtrading at $1-2 per pip on a $500 account, so 20k should be fine for for $10-20 per pip.

£3600 gbp per month would do me nicely

Expecting 200% a month to get to 20k pretty quickly initially.

I mirror Turveyd's plan with a tweak or two. I'll never have over $50k in an account. Please note some brokers offer debit cards. When I generate say $20k, I call my fav real estate agent and buy a fixer upper, pretty it up, hire a management team to rent it out for me and cut me a check. REPEAT---. Never, never, never leave your eggs in one basket. Forex is my first love, but reno trusts reno more than anyone. And furthermore, I take responsibility for my economics. Finally, if you're an 'ace', you'll have folks beating a path to your inbox to trade their money for them. My broker offers the opportunity with stringent criteria.

That's what happen when you don't do the usual due diligence ... We can put red flag to at least 75% of the brokers only by reading their website.

Maybe I'll let it run past 20K after stashing some savings away, no way will I mess with property or anything, I'm trading to get out of the working rat race, although self employeed, want to be well lazier

I won't trade other peoples money either, to stressful.

Just be happy to make 2 - 3x's average wage and be happy I say!!

I'm likely a year off the 20K account and 30% per month, allowing for work and other issues.

If any trader did manage to open up an account, or run an account to several million dollars then i'm sure there is a way to protect the capital which is sat with the broker. I can understand mistrusting brokers with your deposit, especially after reading these stories in the news of named brokers going bust, however, when you do reach such large account balances you would just open an account with a bank or commercial broker, thus leaving the 'retail market' entirely. How do you think these hedge funds which trade in Forex manage to trust their broker with several million dollars which is not yet invested into a financial asset?

One approach, as already mentioned is to keep deposits to a minimum in your retail trading account and have a separate simultaneous bank account running which holds the bulk of your account earnings. Making transfers to and from these two accounts would work, however i'm sure your broker would at some point assume you are taking huge trading risks as the broker account would be significantly smaller than the trades which are being placed (they are obviously unaware of the bank account feeding this broker account).

Let's say you swing trade...you make a few small wins and a few small loses and then you catch one swing, scale in and trail it. Depending on the risk that should give you 30-100% profit per month.

Only one swing!

So what am I missing here??

How do you define a Swing, how do you know the Swing will not stall and reverse on you, so why add more positions higher up, highering your average price and putting yourself more at risk ??



Surely, if you can add to swings and identify them mid swing, surely you'd just add into all swings and always make a profit ?? so no need for small wins and loses.

Come on surely, if you can add to a position on the way up ( assume Long ), then surely you can just trade those same moves starting with no trades at the start and only trade them and skip out the losers ??

It sounds great, doesn't break the bogus losers average down myth, because your averaging up, but your putting yourself at more and more risk adding as it goes up, with less of a profit potential as it's already X pips into the move.
