What does locking in profits mean? how do you do it?

I hear a lot of people say stuff like, take profits at his level and let the trade run ie lock in profits. How do you do this? Is this just a case of moving your stop up to his level and trail the rest? or is there some way you can litterally take profits? Using Metatrader 4

ie. close part of your position and move SL to BE ... you are now with a risk free position.

Yes we can take profits by moving SL ( trailing stops ) to BE or BE + few pips Or Close 1/2 or 1/4 on special levels while holding the rest , etc.

You are essentially locking in the profits, as others have suggested, use trailing SL..
