You should not waste your time in searching for profitable EA's. They cannot make you rick, they can only win some trades at certain times but they will not provide you the comfort of long term success.
I think the majority of us don't have the time to trade. We have limited free time in the day because we have real jobs to go to, then family commitments, then rest and relaxation. EAs offer the ability to trade for you while you eat, sleep, work, have some fun. It is true that finding the profitable EA is a difficult task, but what about learning to program your idea into an EA? This can be also difficult, but rewarding in the long run in multiple ways.
A "good EA" is an oxymoronic term since one does not exist and even if it did, it will not be for sale..at most you can get hold of an EA that performs satisfactorily for a few months and that's about it.
I will not recommend anyone using an EA for profitable trading as any EA cannot give you consistent profit over longer periods of time. Any certain limited time profit may be possible but longer success in not possible.

You are right, if anyone does have an EA that is profitable for long run, then he will not share it for free, but I won't suggest wasting time and money in EA, rather you should make yourself good in trading.

I remember reading on a broker website somewhere that EA traders survive in the markets for xx% longer (it was a huge amount) due to no emotions being involved. I'll see if I can find the link.

It is true EA trades better and No emotion is one reason. I have found that EA is strict and objective. Manual traders often have an biased view in their head based on charts or fundamentals or simply from other traders. It is very hard to get rid of the one sided view, long or short. USDCAD in last week was a good example. I would not short USDCAD because charts told me to go long, However my EA got a short signal and it was a profitable trade.
I think there are other reasons. EA never sleeps or misses a trade so it is an obvious advantage. No one can stay in the front of the computer 24x6 but EA works around the clock. Another note is that my EA has unlimited patience, which I do not have. When trade manually, I tend to cancel trades or close trades before the stop loss or target is hit. It is a messy habit and there is no cure.

I'm not sure why traders always blame EA not working after a certain period of time. The problem is never the EA (assuming there is no bug), it's the system itself not good enough, the rules are to blame, no matter if you trade manually or using an EA. The only difference is that EA will execute and exit trades strictly according to the rules and it's easy to test to see if it works, with a human being they probably already given up since the system does not work.

Here's the problem - most newbies have no clue on how to program or customize an ea, remember, the code is often developed by a third party. I do agree that adjusting the ea to suit one's strategy should allow for better performance. However, not all the traders know how to do this..
And on auto trading, sorry, pref manual - better returns..
I've been running an EA since mid March of this year. This EA has done a monthly avg of 19% through today. The $100 I've started with is now at $550. I haven't had a single loss with this EA. I've had small losses with me at the helm, but not with the EA. Also, those small losses are included in the 19% avg (Example: Aug I lost some money with manuals, but still had a 7% month).
Would you guys say that running an EA for 9 1/2 months at 100% success and 19% a month avg wouldn't work over a longer period of time? I've also read that EA's need to be tooled often. If tha't true and don't continuely tool the EA, would it be expected for this EA to eventually tank and deplete this success I've had? I've made small adustments, but not how the EA executes into a trade. I'm wondering if people that make money with EA's, just don't make it known? If their successful, do they just not post in a forum?
Honest feedback would be appreciated.

The monthly numbers didn't come across on how it looked when I had it typed in here. The first number is the "Goal" and second number is the "Actual" number at the end of the month. And percentage number is what was made that month.
