To be the best

Everybody wants to be "the best" in this game. But let me tell you a few things....

1. The best is a lofty fantasy that you'll never reach. To be the best here you need to be born into status and have connections - it's just the way things are. What you can do is be decent and still make a good living from this by riding on the coattails of those who really run things.
2. What you absolutely need to go back to school. Dropping out of high school, what were you thinking?! This game is dangerous and you need a backup plan so you don't end up committing suicide when your grand ideas don't work out. Realistically unless you start your own successful business, which requires capital in itself that you don't have, the only job you're going to end up getting is (if you're lucky) a job at a burger joint or a retail outlet. And even that's questionable with the global economic crisis having destroyed jobs and pushed parts of the educated middle class into positions the uneducated once held safely. You can't afford to gamble away money on an income like that.
3. You've got the spirit...that's great. A lot of us had that when we first started. But it's far from a guarantee that you're going to do well here...unfortunately unlike other careers where there's almost a sure thing of getting to where you want to go with enough time, you can spend your entire life pursuing this and never attain profitability, simply because you can't handle it emotionally, you never really understand the market order flow, or you have a gambling streak in you that you didn't know before.

So get back enrolled in school, finish it up. Study this in your free time and be responsible about your future. Have a second plan if things don't work out the way you'd liked them to have.

Before becoming the very best, don't you need to catch them all?
That's what I've heard from a popular japanese source anyhow.

But seriously, listen to Kanzler. Salvage your education while you still can.
You love financial markets? Great. Get your butt in college and get a good degree in "Pwning Financial Markets", or whatever they call that in Australia.

You are stunting your intellectual growth by spending your youth staring at charts rather than actually learning things, things that could open whole new perspectives for you and be incredibly helpful.
Finance is a real and complex field of study, and it's not about acquiring a mystical charting instinct, or finding the perfect trading system.

Looking a little further ahead, once you've got an advanced diploma in "Kicking ass with numbers" (which might be translated in Australian as "Masters' degree in Finance" or perhaps "Financial Engineering degree"), it's still super-useful to know your enemy. Go work for the enemy. Learn how they operate, learn from their strengths and their weaknesses. They'll even pay you for it. That'll come in super-handy when you decide to start your very own business that competes directly with them.

Think of it as hedging, too. If you somehow don't quite succeed at taking over the world, you can still fallback on being a highly qualified, competent and experienced professional in the field. There are worse fates.

It's not as important, but its measure of ability to follow through and complete a cause. Go ahead and complete your education and I don't see why you shouldn't succeed.

"The best" traders leave their egos at the door, your ego is your worst enemy.

formal education though fundamentally worthless is an absolute necessity in this paper ridden society. I'm back in college doing my masters coz of idiots who keep raising the hoops to jump.
If you want to be a hedge fund manager you need to have worked in the big banks or hedge funds.otherwise your chances of raising serious capital is next to zero.

I believe Australia has prop shops ....try your luck there to see if you are cut out for it.

The best traders always park their ego elsewhere..but of course the process how they achieve this is often kept under wraps.
When it comes to trading, an ego is just about as useful as a doughnut..personally prefer the doughnut.
