after a busy extended weekend away from trading I am now trying to get to grips with understanding the retail gap - maybe someone could enlighten me?
speculation about turn of direction with the upcoming fomc meeting ?

There are many theories about why gaps have to close. Some of them make sense and some of them border on supernatural ideologies.
My opinion? Much like any other technical indicator, the gap trade is a self fulfilling prophecy.
Those who say it cannot be done should not interrupt those who are doing it

It has been widely attributed to Larry Summers withdrawing from consideration and the market discounting a higher probability of a more dovish Governor.

Bingo...still arms will be sent...the industry lives on.....games people play (albeit nasty ones at that) ..moreover, it it politically easier to arm certain groups than involve ones own ground forces...that strategy will be use sparingly from here on out depending on circumstances...drones can take unwanted "objects" out these days....the young kids are good at operating "joysticks"....

Thanks piptrapper . I wasn't concerned about it being a gap (retail gap), nor was I speculating about it closing. witnessing yrs of gap talk here have left me partially blind on this issue. never traded any gap. I wanted to understand its cause.

Exactly. All is connected today. Out of the overall market regular unpredictability, irregular lags chasing remain predictable.

Ahh... you see what lack of sleep does? I stayed up late last night assessing the charts to try and make a case to stay short the Euro. I found many but at the expense of precious sleep. That explains my failure to understand the otherwise obvious gist of your question. My apologies.

It's getting a bit boring reading about Europe's problems. It's just like an old 45 record skipping on the turntable and instead of fixing it, they just slow it down to 33 1/3 and hope it doesn't skip any more. Problem is that it still skips, but it takes longer and they hope we won't notice.

Kiwi's can fly as long as they are losing altitude and not gaining it... in the same way that a Lada can reach speeds of 100kmph... when going downhill
