MT4 Spread Tool

it is some continuation/addition of the code I did for zackery in 2012: Spread Recorder (Change Request)

as well as some ideas like Oanda's recent spreads:





THIS is an INDICATOR for Metatrade MT4: which will help record/analyze spread.
- Historical spread (record spread to file / read spread from file)
- Plot current Spread: Per Bar
- Max/Min/Average Spread
- Tick Number as well as Volume
- Plot of All historical Spread bars:
- Highest/Lowest
- AlertOption

- High/Low is from All Historical Spreads:

- I added the Volume because: one can see that the Tick count is often missing some: may it be the internet connection or calculation (I checked with just simple counting and it was similar) or does the broker send not all: who knows.

* but one must know that this is not 100% so there could have been in one of the missing Volumes a higher/lower spread

-Average spread is based on purpose on Tick count and not the Volume

- All is saved to an CSV file so one can further use it in excel or whatever application

- I still need to do the import of historical saved Spreads

BTW: if you use it be so kind and post some of your CSV files so I and others can check different broker spread wihout having to rerun all

the last couple of days I definitely got some slightly different Spreads recorded than what is published on my brokers Webpage: reasons could be various

- maybe becauuse I collect from Demo and what is published uses the live spread (don't know)
- my recording tool is wrong
- what is published on the web is wrong (or they take only ever so often snapshots)
- maybe other reasons

will definitely continue doing this fore the Week endng and next week starting.

Next Week I might doing it on 15Min charts as this is what my broker publishes: and also on my live account and demo to compar for selected pairs

recorded 3 days for 20 symbolsl Spreads

also toke for all symbols(121) every 60 seconds spread Snapshots with my other tool


but found a very silly error when reloading the historical spread files: going to fix it - removed for now the indicator

- fixed a silly error which prevented saved files from being loaded

and here the 3 days saved spreads for EURUSD M1 loaded again

My findings so far: Live and demo are quite the same: so I stopped collecting on Live account.
but I still get more often and higher maximum spreads than what is posted on the webside.

So it's quite important to do it myself for a while to have a good estimate

I might be using for a day or so: "rooicol - Tick Spread" which records some additional values on tick bases.

Will be finishing collecting spreads after today’s USD News:

did some more with my "MT4 Spread Tool" as well as using "rooicol - Tick Logger.ex4"


So far it seems that the indicator works as expected as is quite useful.

Guess with this I finished the thread for the time being.

Ati Baia, thank you very much for this tool. Could I ask if is possible to add an alert if the spread reaches a certain predetermined level set by the user? i.e if spread reach 12, or 14.5, or 21, etc?

hi jusiur,

do you mean: alert once or each time the Spread is above the level.

anyway, if you share a bit how you use it I might have some ideas what I could do to help. (I mainly did it for collectiong Spreads and compair it to what my broker posts on the webpage - I do not use it in live trading)

Just for your info: I might be without internet for a couple of weeks (not sure yet): in that case remind me as this is not a personal high priority.

Here's the indy...

I do not do any Mt5 but only skipped once through and knew it does some historical spread stuff


but a fast glance seems it only returns 1 integer per bar: so not sure how useful that is: probably the Max Spread in points do you know ?

anyone can please help me set it up to work? i read help file but still it responds with error!

edit:figured it out , you need to create this directory manually > inside your terminal's installation directory create experts\files\spreadhistory

DLL imports also should be enabled.
