I risk nothing less than 10% in each and every trade i take up if am sure of the market trend.

30% of trading account.

but my original stop gets hit <5% of time. It is really disaster stop.

average loss is actually 3%.

Hi all! I have been a long time watcher on the forums here but now a first time poster, so take it easy on me . Anyways, I have paper traded since last August and was able to double a couple of demo accounts after finally learning what in the world I was doing and have now gone live. I am extremely under capitalized by anyone's standard (started with $500.00). I know over leveraging yourself is the quickest way to demise. I was able to make 20% each of the last two weeks and have grown to over $720.00 by swing trading using BB and RSI mainly. So my question is how do you manage your risk/reward with such a small amount? Also, Do you know of anyone who has had any success when starting with such little capital?

1% and have made fantastic returns on my account percentage-wise. Could do this for a living if I had the capital...might take me a few years to earn that with a wage job though. :/

I only trade 1% risk per trade ONLY if I have a proven system with an edge that has been verified by backtesting and forward testing.

Somewhere between 1-5%, anything above that and you start playing with fire. Psychology can be kept in check when risk is low and profits are low. Just plug away and let them accrue, that's been my way so far....

Excellent point about playing with fire. You never know when you will have your losing streak, it can come more often than you think, and you have to prepared to withstand a worse case scenario. Trading with more than 3% risk can add up the damage real fast on a losing streak.

Never more than 2%. I use a set lot size throughout the week where a 20 pip stop loss would be 2%... and then I adjust my stop losses accordingly on each trade but never use a stop loss more than 20 pips.

I also use very low lot size to maintain my good money management in forex trading. It is a very good way of trading but most of the traders want to make quick money so they use high lots.

Less than 1% for me.I am way too afraid of taking the risk.Probably,when i will have consistent profit then i can increase the risk to 3-5% but as of now less than 1%.

right now i am in my testing phase i am risking 100 % of my live account. the capital is not much but lets see where it takes me in the near future. the notion goes..MORE RISK MORE PROFIT

I am currently on H. total newbie.
But I would like to be on G. Trading demo and probably start live after few months and I will definitely start on a 1% risk.

Start less than 1% on your first live account and STAY on 1% for the rest of your trading endeavor, you'll thank me later.
